Is this the proper place for Hayer's affidavits? Shouldn't they be in the article about Hayer, not Johnson? -V

They should be on Wikisource, actually. Noel (talk) 19:58, 20 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merge to Malcolm X#Assassination[edit]

The articles Hayer affidavits, Talmadge Hayer, Norman 3X Butler and Thomas 15X Johnson are all stubs. If they aren't expanded, there's no reason why they shouldn't be replaced with a redirect to Malcolm X#Assassination, which could take in anything covered in these 4 articles but not there. The Monster 01:16, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's the signicance of "15x"? How is this naming related to the "X" that Malcolm X, Louis Farrikhan and others haven taken? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 15.251.169.69 (talk) 17:53, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As in mathematics, "X" stands for the unknown — in this case, the unknown African name that was stolen when one's ancestors were enslaved. During the 50s and early 60s, when somebody joined the Nation of Islam, it was customary to drop his or her last name ("slave name") and adopt the letter X instead, so Malcolm Little became Malcolm X.
Thomas 15X means that Thomas Johnson was the 15th person named Thomas who joined the mosque. The first would have been Thomas X, the second Thomas 2X, etc. — Malik Shabazz (Talk | contribs) 00:02, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
