Category talk:Cities in Tokyo Prefecture[edit]

This category should be changed to "Cities in Tokyo" or "Cities in Tokyo Metropolitan Government" WhisperToMe 23:06, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Why? Is the "Cities in X prefecture" scheme not acceptable? Is it a prefecture? Why is "prefecture" sometimes capitalized and sometimes not—which usage is correct? I don't want to think about the amount of re-categorizing that would be involved if "X prefecture" is not acceptable. Is it "X prefecture", "X Prefecture", or just "X"? (But it can't always be just "X" if "X" is also a name for something else.
I'm very confused by all this. I was trying to get some categorizing help for the masses of Japanese town and city articles that are currently scarcely connected to anything, following precedents set by people whom I assumed to have known what they were doing. 1. Tokyo-to isn't supposed to be called Tokyo Prefecture. See Prefectures of Japan for an explanation of this.
2. English usage dictates that "prefecture" be capitalized in the name of a prefecture.
The precedents set before were set by people not familiar with all the rules of English. We really need someone with a bot to change the links where necessary. Sekicho 11:41, Oct 6, 2004 (UTC)
