Article Name[edit]

Mario publishes all his songs under the name "Mario". This article should be moved to Mario (singer), in keeping with the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names). For precedence, see Madonna (entertainer), Jewel (singer), Jem (singer), Dido (singer), Bill Clinton, Eminem, etc. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 19:13, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

...but what happens when some other guy named Mario decides to carry a tune? --FuriousFreddy 19:40, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I highly doubt that another singer would try to publish songs under the name "Mario", for the same reason that no one has tried to publish as "Madonna", "Jewel", etc. As this Mario has established a trademark by publishing under his first name, he would have grounds to sue them. In either case, that hasn't been an issue yet; if we had to, we could burn that bridge when we came to it. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 20:10, August 17, 2005 (UTC)
I was joking (lol). I agree with the move. --FuriousFreddy 22:02, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mario[edit]

mmmmkay I certainly don't agree cuz there is also a Mario Winans who is a singer as well who I, myself, got mixed up with Mario Barret. I didn't even know that they were different people. You know the one who did that song with diddy in 2004 called "I don't wanna know" mario am just proud of him coz he hasn't made any bad picture to the public like the other celebs.so mario dont you ever do it the bad way.nancy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nancy sharon (talkcontribs) 14:01, 13 June 2009 (UTC) [reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Mariogo.jpg[edit]

Image:Mariogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Just wondering...[edit]

Sorry, but I'm just wondering what all that stuff at the top of the page is. Thanks... Blackleopard11 21:02, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It looked like a mess, didn't it? Anyway I've reverted it to its better-looking version. Soulrefrain (Talk) 01:45, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Knightwritaz and 'notes'[edit]

the Knightwritaz section has a mistake. it says: The production team includes with Mario, Sterling Simms.

wtf does that mean?!?! i tried to look at the reference/note, but i can't see mention of this simms guy, and the article said Nightriders, not Knightwritaz.

also, one of the other links in the notes section no longer works. are these not checked and updated?

or does it not matter, as long as it's a reference? i see many articles here that don't cite references, but at least they don't cite non working references...

i would correct, but funnily enough, i came here to find the info! 77.101.18.129 20:44, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Knightwritaz Section Edit[edit]

I removed the statement "You can imagine how many different concepts and things I had," the 21-year-old explains. "But there's really even more than that, because I'm gonna start recording, like, [at] the end of January." from the Knightwritaz section because it was already mentioned in the TBA (2008) section of the article. Thanks. ~~Aian —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.38.51.134 (talk) 20:42, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Go collaborations[edit]

I recently removed a mess of a partial "reference" about collaborations on Go asking is anyone knew what it was. I've looked thru the history and found out. It's a primary source selling the album that does not verify the claims of collaborations. That ref needs to stay away. duffbeerforme (talk) 15:22, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 1[edit]

The result of the move request was: Move. Jafeluv (talk) 11:32, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

– In all cases "the entertainer __" is a vanity disambiguator not reflected in newspaper or book sources. No.1. Mario (entertainer) current disambiguator fails WP:CRITERIA on 3 of 5 counts; 1, 2 & 5. "the entertainer mario" R&B -cedric = 0 results relating to Mario. "the singer mario" R&B -cedric = About 248,000 results. No different from Miguel (singer). The second RM, the other Chris Brown (Canadian entertainer) is not even in the "entertainer" ball park. The third and fourth RM much the same for Mario, zero for "the entertainer Monica" (an undiscussed move by a sockpuppet), and "the entertainer Bebe" - instead "the singer Monica" "the singer Bebe". RM 5 and 6, well. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:32, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support moving Mario (entertainer), since the use of this disambiguator is always wrong. No opinion on the other proposed move. 168.12.253.66 (talk) 18:47, 9 June 2013 (UTC):Edit: I support changing the other listed titles too. 168.12.253.66 (talk) 14:55, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support I agree, the more specific a title can be, the better. This helps limit digging time for end users. Nicoli Maege (talk) 16:06, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: "Singer" is more relevant than entertainer.  Brendon is here 08:10, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: No move. Mario (singer) will redirect to the dab page. Cúchullain t/c 16:05, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mario (American singer)Mario (singer) – That already redirects here. Unreal7 (talk) 16:32, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - The redirect looks like an accident. The reason for (American singer) is because of the Italian singer Mario and Danish singer Mario listed at Mario (disambiguation). I've just added Mario Chicot singer from Guadeloupe, but he's only called just "Mario" on 2 of his CDs. It's the 19th Century singer Mario who is the real competition here. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:38, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose "Mario (singer)" should redirect to the disambiguation page Mario (disambiguation) which lists more than one singer going by "Mario" as a mononym -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 04:50, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Mario (disambiguation) is possibly a case of WP:PDAB, and Mario (singer) -- or perhaps, Mario (singers)? -- should be the more specific disambiguation. In any case, more specificity is generally better for disambiguating article titles, so American singer works for me. Dovid (talk) 13:54, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mario (American singer)Mario BarrettWP:NATURAL is preferred over parenthetical disambiguation. SSTflyer 12:04, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose per the last sentence of WP:MONONYM. It seems that many reliable sources treat him as a mononymous person, similar to Madonna (entertainer) or Prince (musician). In the case of those articles, they are using parenthetical disambiguation. So how is Mario different from Madonna, Prince, the other examples listed in the first requested move discussion, or other articles named per the last sentence of WP:MONONYM? Otherwise per WP:MONONYM, widespread consensus is that parenthetical disambiguation, NOT natural disambiguation, is the optimal article title when its subject is a mononymous person. Zzyzx11 (talk) 12:41, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per above, he doesn't use his surname, so this wouldn't be correct. Nohomersryan (talk) 22:04, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Mario (musician). The "Prince (musician)" example above convinced me that this is the appropriate title. I recognize that there are other Mario musicians as well, but there are other Prince musicians as well and that never stopped Prince from claiming the title of the Prince musician. It all comes down to what is the primary topic, and I'd say that this Mario clearly wins out. Feedback 15:53, 23 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
