Categorisation of Fred Hollows as an anarchist[edit]

Why on earth is this guy categorised under Anarchists? Unsigned Comment made 22:12, 12 July 2006 by 202.61.134.116

Because he considered himself, and called himself, an anarchist, or more specifically an anarcho-syndicalist. See the quote from Chief Minister of the ACT, Rosemary Follett which should be cited as; Rosemary Follett, ACT Parliamentary Hansard 16 February 1993. The citation was there originally but has vanished in the subsequent changes.--Takver (talk) 06:29, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have put the citation back in. I am going to add him again to the Category:Australian anarchists --Takver (talk) 06:49, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please also see the Humanist of the year citation for him being cattegorized as an anarcho-syndicalist. There is also an anecdotal report by prominent aboriginal activist Gary Foley that Hollows participated in BUGAUP activities as published in a 1993 Age newspaper article here.--Takver (talk) 11:33, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What school?[edit]

What primary and High School did he attend? I have an assignment and i would appreciate it. he went to trinity catholic college It's on the page. He went to Palmerston North High school, I'm not quite sure about Primary school though. Happykid536 01:49, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whjy all thisa de-wikifying?[edit]

I notice that on 13 June 2006, the unidentified editor 211.31.239.187 had de-wikified this article without explanation. Some to-ing and froing has happend but I don't see the general result is an overall improvement. While there is more information added and sources added, the result has been to undo the work of other wikipedians without explanation. I have reverted it. I suggest new information be added constructively rather than obliterating past work without explanation.

Cor Unum 07:39, 30 July 2006 (UTC) EDIT: Its says in the 3rd sentence in early life —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.182.28.222 (talk) 23:11, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Citizenship[edit]

Does anybody know about his Australian Citizenship?

Hi, I'm doing an assignment on Dr F, but I can't seem to find when he became an Australian citizen. Doesanybody know about that, or are there any references that particular piece of information? Thnx Happykid536 01:48, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This site includes a list of dates from his life, including when he became a citizen: http://www.stir.org.au/stir/blender/forum_posts.asp?TID=318

If someone more-wiki savvy than I could incorporate the new info? I'd rather not attempt anything without someone at my shoulder to correct my mistakes. Oh, please include the section on his original plans to become a missionary - this seems to be common (frex, Dr Barnardo) so anyone researching the shifts between missionaries and charity workers will want to know. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.223.194.222 (talk) 11:25, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Can someone remove the "hello chris" at the bottom of the page thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.214.71.209 (talkcontribs) 23:55, 10 April 2007 (ACST).

Removed. Thanks for the tip.--cj | talk 15:53, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the early life section, end of the first paragraph: "he joined several clubs and learned the fine art of shagging sheep from his brother james bridgman." I presume this is not quite accurate? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.211.242.227 (talk) 20:02, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On vandalism[edit]

I've been looking through the Wikipedia policies, and it's not clear what to do when a page is being repeatedly vandalised from several (mostly related) IP addresses. The offender should be warned. What to do? -- De Guerre (talk) 03:38, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See [1] David Broadfoot (talk) 04:54, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Read all that. I can't find a description of what to do when the vandal or vandals do not appear to reuse an IP address. -- De Guerre (talk) 06:50, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Post an incident report to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. The appropriate action in this case would be to semi-protect the page (i.e. prevent editing by anonymous users.) --David Broadfoot (talk) 15:30, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the correct place to request page protection is at WP:RFPP not [[[WP:ANI]]. I made a request at WP:ANI on March 3 but it was rejected with the response "I'm not going to protect it because there's minimal edit warring or vandalism. --Haemo" - unbelievable! Anyway, I have just made this new request as the last 17 edits since that rejection have all been vandalism and reverts. --David Broadfoot (talk) 15:18, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct, and I've fixed the article. The article had it right up until an obvious vandalism on 30 August 2007 which also changed to a different name. When the vandalism was reversed, the change of name was not noticed. On 22 November, another editor repaired vandalism to the same section and restored the correct name, but unfortunately misspelled it.-gadfium 06:09, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Controversial[edit]

What is controversial about saying that promiscuity needs to be addressed as well as safe sex? That may be right, or it may be wrong. But what is controversial about saying it?

Isn't the sentence "Clearly, Hollows infuriated some sections of the community with his comments, but apparently did not cause widespread condemnation" rather POV and unnecessary?

In this section the statement "Hollows observed the spread of AIDS in contemporary African communities and he was concerned that AIDS would spread as vehemently through Aboriginal communities" uses the word 'vehemently' incorrectly according to the Macquarie Dictionary definition. [1]
I agree with the comment above about the sentence beginning "Clearly,...", it needs removing.Lin (talk) 11:40, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree there is a bias in this section, and I've changed it accordingly. Both references verified that Hollows had made the statements attributed to him, and both sources made it clear that not everyone agreed with him; but that's just a debate, not a controversy.
