My observation about Pickover[edit]

This man as I observe does not give away anything freely; but to my observation, everything he puts in his website is intended to make readers pay to read his thoughts. [End of my observation] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.144.182.70 (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that Cliff Pickover is happy with the information originally provided on this page, and thus no copyright violation exists by giving his biographical sketch and bibliography listing.

That's quite an assertion to make, with nothing to back it up, no email in Pickover's discussion group, no email from him, no user claiming to Pickover. I think I shall ask in the Reality Carnival discussion group (but first add it to article.) --maru 00:37, 6 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Computers and Graphics[edit]

The list of associate editors on the Elsevier "Computers & Graphics Editorial Board"[1] web page currently does not mention Pickover. Is this an accidental omission, or has Pickover stopped editing articles for that journal? --DavidCary (talk) 17:08, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This article is not written like a BLP[edit]

Article needs major pruning OR separation into two entries,

a BLP AND a list of fiction and expository writing

Right now, it seems as though IBM Research employs Pickover as a mathematician-novelist. Yes, I understand that he is preternaturally prolific as a sci-fi author. He wrote 20 books in about 15 years, all while working full-time at IBM. He draws, he writes poems too.

Fine, but I want to know who his parents were, where he was born, what his degrees were in and when he was graduated from each program. I want to know what his PhD thesis title was and his adviser's name. I want to know if he is married, or has any children. This is the material that we include in BLP on Wikipedia. The tone of the article is more like a fan site. This talk page is almost reverential. Wikipedia doesn't do that. I am somewhat annoyed, as this page has existed like this since 2004!

I am NOT the apocryphal supercilious teenage Wikipedia functionary, reveling in my online authority. I am a 45 year old Jewish widow and former IBM employee (not quite Almaden calibre, but I was in geo-proximity). I realize that Clifford K Pickover, PhD is highly notable, accomplished and worthy. Interleaving his professional work, patents, awards with his fiction, artwork, musical compositions is confusing, and diminishes all of it. I'm not complaining that this page is like one of those obsequious embarrassments a la this BLP!

Please, if anyone reads this and cares, please streamline or restructure the article. I can do it, but I might lack finesse, expanding coverage of the math, topology stuff that I am in awe of, and over-truncating the rest. Let me know if you want my additional assistance, whomsoever the future "you" may be! Thank you.--FeralOink (talk) 10:57, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is this article "written like an advertisement?"[edit]

I'm not sure if I understand this cleanup tag here. Does this article need to be revised or rewritten? Jarble (talk) 15:30, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Jarble: this tag usually means article exaggerates achievements and reduces or omits criticism. Looking at the article it could be revise to being more neutral and less praising. Jonpatterns (talk) 04:42, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
