Untitled[edit]

Why was the battle fought? As part of which war/conflict?

Merger proposal[edit]

I think that Battle of Engen should be merged into Battle of Stockach (1800), as they seem to be discussing the same battle.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Wm243 (talkcontribs) 22:29, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Neutral: They took place on the same day, but there is about 20 kilometres distance between Engen, Germany and Stockach, and the two battles never merged into one. However, the French victory at Stockach did compel the Austrians at Engen to retreat, so they did affect each other. Some language versions of Wikipedia treat them separately, such as German, French and Russian Wikipedia, but the others treat them together. We can regard them as 'twin battles', such as the Battle of Jena–Auerstedt, although they also are sometimes treated separately. If we do merge them, I propose to use the title 'Battles of Stockach and Engen', plural, with both places in the name. Cheers, Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 17:16, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: You know what? Let's just do it (WP:BOLD). The current Engen article is so small and has only one source, which is unreliable. Telling the story in one article makes for a more comprehensive narrative. I'll use the title I proposed. Cheers, Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 17:23, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
