Definition or disambiguation?[edit]

I see someone added a template marking this page for a move to Wiktionary; I've removed the tag, for now, because I think it requires some consideration. If you examine the few backlinks this page has, you'll notice it's on my user page - specifically, an old "to do" item marked "Leeching - serious rewrite required". The rewrite I was thinking of was to turn it into an article, primarily, about its use in the technological sense; I now see that an article titled bandwidth theft already exists.

One option would thus be to redirect this page there, but that requires an important judgement call on whether the medical term also deserves its own article. We already have bloodletting, which actually refers here, but is fairly thorough, so could probably bear including info on "leeching" if there's not too much to say. If both topics are equally valid (even if only as sections of other articles), then we can't redirect to either of them, which in my view makes this a classic candidate for disambiguation. Of course, if one of them isn't, then it can be a redirect; and if neither is, it can be transwiki'd and/or deleted.

All opinions, as always, are welcome. - IMSoP 20:43, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • I think that it could definitely be expanded beyond the one-line link to bloodletting. -Sean Curtin 00:06, Mar 9, 2005 (UTC)
