Is this really any faster than the TGV? The journey time from Lyon to Paris is 2 hours - and it's over 400 km. That's an average speed of around 125 mph. That's not even on the line which has had (historically) the fastest TGVs. The Atlantique line has had faster trains - though maybe now they're all up to the same standards.

Also note that on most high speed rail systems the average speed is often quite a bit lower than the max speed. The Eurostar between London and Brussels has an average speed of only 82 mph, so although the train has a high max speed, it is not actually as fast as the Swedish X2000 between Stockholm and Gothenberg, which has an average speed of over 90mph. Some tilting trains do rather well on curved runs - for example the X2000 (which also tilts) runs between Stockholm and Sundsvall at an average speed of about 72 mph - which isn't bad considering the way the line curves. There are several measures. As for commercial max. speed, the newest TGV and the ICE trainsets are faster than Series 500 Shinkansen. And yet...

  • Fastest scheduled average speed between two station stops
    261.8 km/h (164 mph) Japan, 500 series "Nozomi" between Hiroshima and Kokura, from March 1997.
  • Fastest scheduled average speed between starting and terminating stations
    242.5 km/h (152 mph) Japan, 500 series "Nozomi" between Shin-Osaka and Hakata, from March 1997.

The link above is outdated (2001). TGV is the fastest scheduled train in the world now. TGV reached average speed of 263.3 km/h between Lyon-St Exupéry and Aix-en-Provence from November, 2005. Bad Puns[edit]

How about some design specifications and blueprints/diagrams of this train? Does anyone have these? Blueprints would be most beneficiary

smoking sections[edit]
