20 years on Wikipedia!

During December 2022, I celebrated the completion of twenty years on Wikipedia. Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the entire Wikipedia team and family and my many fellow editors for giving me the opportunity to use my time productively by allowing me to contribute from my education, knowledge, experience and skills to this amazing project over twenty very productive years. Thank you so much to everyone concerned and a special thank you to the many readers who utilize this encyclopedia. Feel free to leave a message at: User:IZAK/awards#20 years in 2022.

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello IZAK! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 8 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 1,557 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Question concerning use of CE instead of AD

User:IZAK, shalom. Recently, there was a discussion promoted by you (on WP Discussion Board) about whether we should be using CE for dates, rather than AD, in which I voiced my opinion. Do you have the link to that discussion, and what was the final resolution?Davidbena (talk) 16:16, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Important information

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in pseudoscience and fringe science. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.  Bishonen | tålk 10:18, 13 January 2021 (UTC).[reply]

Unattributed copying of text from Wikipedia articles

Hi there IZAK. After looking at the article mentioned above, History of the Jews in Artsakh, I noticed that the “Background” section is entirely copy-pasted from Republic of Artsakh. While copying from other articles is allowed, it is required that the source be attributed, preferably with a template such as {{copied}}. I've gone ahead and added the template on your behalf, but thought I might just notify you of this. For more information, I recommend reading Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Compatibly-licensed sources for more information. Have a good day! — Yours, Berrely • TalkContribs 19:13, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Wars and the Israel-Palestine conflict...please fill out my survey?

Hello :) I am writing my MA dissertation on Wikipedia Wars and the Israel-Palestine conflict, and I noticed that you have contributed to those pages. My dissertation will look at the process of collaborative knowledge production on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and the effect it has on bias in the articles. This will involve understanding the profiles and motivations of editors, contention/controversy and dispute resolution in the talk pages, and bias in the final article.

For more information, you can check out my meta-wiki research page or my user page, where I will be posting my findings when I am done.

I would greatly appreciate if you could take 5 minutes to fill out this quick survey before 8 August 2021.

Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary and anonymous. There are no foreseeable risks nor benefits to you associated with this project.

Thanks so much,

Sarah Sanbar

Holy ****

Main discussion: Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 350#Another unreliable Haaretz article

...you tweaked your commentary just in time. PLEASE do not think you can't be blocked for those kinds of edits. I can't find it now, but I think you tweaked this too. Cullen328, what do you think--I'm thinking we should revdelete this. Drmies (talk) 22:54, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, I was asked to modify my critique and I did. IZAK (talk) 22:58, 10 August 2021 (UTC).[reply]
    • Drmies, that is a definite BLP violation. I am working with power tools right now, so please feel free to revdelete. Thanks. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 23:31, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thank you Cullen328--I did. IZAK, please don't be so laconic about it: that wasn't "critique", it was cussing people out, and they were serious BLP violations. Revdeletion is not something we do lightly. Please see the template below, about discretionary sanctions in the BLP area. Drmies (talk) 23:50, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles.

  • What "biographical articles" are you talking about? I never edited such an "article" recently! No clue what "revdelete" is! Never heard of it. WP policies keep on growing like moss and it's hard to keep up with them. Can you please point to the relevant WP policy? Another question: How is criticizing someone who does not have a "biography" on WP get treated to "BLP"? IZAK (talk) 02:00, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • To be crystal clear, IZAK, the relevant policy is Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons which I encourage you to read from beginning to end, and to re-read until you understand it thoroughly. This policy applies to articles which are biographies, but it also applies to every single page on Wikipedia without exception and it applies to every living person on the face of the Earth, and to recently deceased people as well, whether or not they have a Wikipedia article. By policy, you are simply not allowed to dehumanize a Haaretz journalist that you disagree with by asserting that this person is actually a disease carrying insect. You can vent your hatred on other websites or to your friends, families and associates, but you are disallowed by policy from making such comments anywhere on Wikipedia. This policy is the Wikipedia equivalent of Lashon hara, which I assume that you know quite well. As for Wikipedia:Revision deletion, that policy goes back to 2009, so it is hardly new. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:23, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks for explaining. IZAK (talk) 04:10, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thank you Cullen. IZAK, you've been here since 2002. That we have to explain this to you is really remarkable. And again, you said you were "criticizing" some person: you were not. You mare making horrible accusations. Drmies (talk) 14:09, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
        • Yes, isn't it amazing that after all these years I still get upset by hateful, stupid and ignorant statements against other good Jews? What a surprise! I should be awarded a prize for that! IZAK (talk) 17:59, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The article Yeshiva Pachad Yitzchok has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:ORG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Esther Pollard requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/esther-pollard-who-fought-for-husband-jonathans-release-from-prison-dies-at-68/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Fram (talk) 11:34, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn´t indicated as a quote, and an article shouldn´t consist largely of a quote anyway, but should be your own text with quotes used very sparingly, mainly to add some opinion exactly. Fram (talk) 05:39, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Fram: It wasn't an article, it was a small WP:STUB and as such should have been left alone, see WP:DONOTDEMOLISH. And I did indicate the quote with the "colon" ":" which indented it and which you obviously missed or ignored. IZAK (talk) 20:28, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you try to use some essay to defend your claim that a stub isn´t an article, then I don´t think it´s useful to continue this discussion. No, there isn´t any conceivable reason to leave stubs alone for things like copyvio (or blp violations, lack of notability, and so on). And no, indentation isn´t enough to avoid copyvio, and having 80% of your article an attributed quote wouldn´t be acceptable either (but at least somewhat better). Fram (talk) 21:13, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Esther Pollard moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Esther Pollard, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your page to draft space (with a prefix of Draft: before the article title) where you can work on it with minimal disruption. When you feel that it meets our notability and neutrality requirements, and is thus ready for mainspace, please submit it using the Articles for Creation template on the page. Notice

The article Hod (Kabbalah) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Minor esoteric religious terminology in a foreign language - no real evidence of substantial discussion as a subject in its own right outside of discussion of the "sefirot", where the material is already covered - citation, let alone sourcing, is almost wholly absent.

Iskandar323 (talk) 09:35, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Devekut for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Devekut is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Devekut (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.

ARBPIA

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Making personal attacks on talk pages is not an acceptable tactic of opposing a move request. nableezy - 18:27, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Nableezy: There is no "personal attack" to say that some editors favor the pro-Palestinian side. Stop hiding behind policies to ignite your own attacks. Your tactics are well-known by now. Cut it out. IZAK (talk) 18:33, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Saying Those who want to make the suggested move are in fact WP:POVWARRIERSS themselves advocating for the Palestinian side it would seem. is a pretty blatant attack. You can make it again if youd like me to take it to AE and we can see if Im right or wrong. nableezy - 18:50, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Nableezy:, this line is now struck: Those who want to make the suggested move are in fact Wikipedia:POVWARRIORS themselves advocating for the Palestinian side it would seem. Happy? IZAK (talk) 18:54, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Strikov (hasidic dynasty)

Hello Izak how are you?

This article has been moved to Draft space because it does not meet someone's criteria

How do we get a blanket acceptance that articles about Hasidic dynsatiers are ipso facto worthy of an article in Wikipedia?

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Rabbi Bar-Ilan (Berlin) Israel stamp.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Rabbi Bar-Ilan (Berlin) Israel stamp.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Vanjagenije (talk) 23:07, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
