I belive there is more than one Sorenson codec - many sources talk about "Sorenson 2", "Sorenson 3" and so forth. A list of codecs and what they are based on would be much welcomed :-)

Sorenson the Name

Sorenson License

Redirection

hello, I've seen that there was a redirection from Sorenson_Spark to Sorenson_codec. The Sorenson_codec page contains information about Sorenson Video Quantizer codec, which is not really related to Sorenson spark. I mean except the first part of its name. I think it's a bit confusing. Sorenson spark is a codec which is very close to H.263, Sorenson Video Quantizer 1 (SVQ1) is a codec of its own which can hardly be compared to any other codec and Sorenson Video Quantizer 3 (SVQ3) is a codec which can be compared to H.264. Piggy-backed

MPlayer uses native codecs to play SVQ1 videos. Win32 QuickTime libraries are used to decode SVQ3 files.

Details aside, this section links to a disambiguation page which leads to no information vis-à-vis "piggy-backing" in the sense of one application using resources intended for another.

If a relevant article is not likely to be listed in the foreseeable future, the link should be removed.

The comment about MPlayer is not entirely correct: MPlayer can use FFmpeg's native open-source decoder to decode all of Sorenson Spark, Sorenson Video 1 and Sorenson Video 3. MPlayer can also use binary codecs to decode SVQ1 and SVQ3. --Regression Tester (talk) 11:12, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
