New town, theme park, container port, land reclamation, etc.[edit]

The history section says these things will be done.. The fact is these will be done somewhere else on Lantau Island, but not in Tai O (though one of the proposed sites for the container port happens to be quite near to Tai O). The rest will be on the other side of the island. — Instantnood 20:41, May 12, 2005 (UTC)

  • Is the current reclamation project for the container port? SchmuckyTheCat 21:49, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously not. If it's gonna be a container port the reclamation project would have come with highways. For details, see: [1], [2] and [3]. For details of previous reclaimation projects (the site of the present-day Lung Ting Estate), see: [4], [5] and [6]. — Instantnood 10:05, May 13, 2005 (UTC)
I'll work some text in about what's currently going on there. SchmuckyTheCat 13:58, May 13, 2005 (UTC)
Thank you. — Instantnood 14:35, May 13, 2005 (UTC)

Any progress? — Instantnood 20:11, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

None so far. Evandafoxxo (talk) 19:34, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bridge photo[edit]

Because Image:Tai O San Ki Bridge.jpg is not included under a free license, if someone could go to the bridge and take a different picture that's public domain or licensed under the GFDL or a Creative Commons License, that would be greatly appreciated. howcheng {chat} 18:33, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I could just re-license the picture as GFDL. Why? SchmuckyTheCat 19:17, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes you could, and that would also be great. howcheng {chat} 00:01, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But why do that? SchmuckyTheCat 00:10, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Because it is the goal of Wikipedia to use free-use images only so that its entire content can be freely redistributable, so original images licensed under the GFDL or in the public domain are greatly preferred to copyrighted media files used under fair use. Per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria, "Always use a more free alternative if one is available." howcheng {chat} 18:55, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any alternative available in this moment? — Instantnood 20:11, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fair use allows the image to be used in clones of Wikipedia. GFDL allows the image to be re-used by anyone for any reason. That is what I wanted to avoid, as I don't want commercial reproduction of images I have put on Wikipedia (not like this one would matter). But I have changed the licensed to gfdl. SchmuckyTheCat 20:32, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(reset indent) I appreciate your concerns, but you have to understand that there is a difference between your (former) goal with this image and the overall goal of Wikipedia. If you don't want to allow for commercial use of your image, you shouldn't upload it (or perhaps you can downsample it so that only a low-resolution version is available such that it won't be of much use commercially -- a cc-by-sa license is good too because it forces anyone who wants to use the image to also use the same license). howcheng {chat} 07:04, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
