Race, intelligence and educational reform[edit]
Hello, I am an educational reformer who has chosen anonymity for the purposes of on-line collaboration at Wikipedia. Not so much for my own sake, but for that of colleagues who might be embarassed or even lose funding or employment.
Do you know anything about the Pygmalion effect or Hawthorne effect in regards to early childhood or elementary education? I've read isolated reports of significant IQ gains correlated with the attitude or expectation of the tester or teacher.
Arthur Jensen himself - considered the arch-racist by some advocates - reports IQ score gains of 8 or 9 points simply by playing kindly with the children to set them at ease and there was that study nearly 4 decades ago (only one study?!) that told teachers a randomly selected group was brighter; and then the kids showed astonishing increases in academic achievement.
Can you help me dig up research results which have a bearing on this?

The Pygmalion effect to me is basically the positive effect you get on any child when he has a great teacher who isn't mean and who cares that the children really learn to distinguish and sort out the confusing bits...to do that the teacher has to give them attention.
Consider the nature of attention, or even love...it is basically human mental energy that is transferred to another person to shape or mold the recipient's mental and spiritual reservoir. Giving lots of it makes this reservoir larger and shapes it. If it is not fed, it remains small and may even dry up. Energy transfer is a basic feature of the physical world and human society, and I have no doubt that it plays out in shaping IQ's as well. In fact, any and everything that you can possibly think of can probably be boiled down to some kind of energy transfer if you dissect it minutely enough.
You can research the effects of classical music on growing agricultural products, or the effects of talking to plants. I believe such things are relevant to human growth as well. --Atrahasis 15:50, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Secrecy[edit]
You said on a talk page:
- But the "veil of secrecy" of things Asian will often confuse people into thinking something is OR or "new knowledge", because it may really bother them that they just can't get an English source or even a written source for X item. Could you expand? I'm very curious. What is doing the veiling? What is being veiled? Could I please have:
- some hand waving generalities so I have a clue to what you are talking about and what you are NOT talking about (social privacy, military security, asian v. western insecurity, etc.)
- a few pointed examples I can pin down for examination via Googling

Nonsense of Korean farmers[edit]
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Korean farmers, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Korean farmers, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Image source problem with Image:Wik sal1.jpg[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Wik sal1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:44, 25 February 2008 (UTC). Speedy deletion of File:Wik sal1.jpg[edit]
A tag has been placed on File:Wik sal1.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
