Why? It's a list, it is sorted chronologically. It is only natural to assume that a reader might want to check what else happened on the date being linked. Unlike a low-value date link in the body of the text of a regular article, date links here serve a purpose and are quite useful.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 14:27, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A Births Section?[edit]

Honestly, what does the birth's section in this article have to do with anything? If one includes the births section (and I see the initial creator of the article added a "deaths section" also for some untold reason) than the nature of this article and consequently the Title of the article needs to be changed to reflect the real objective of the article which is the synthesis of the 2 topics. Otherwise, having a births section is not only confusing but entirely unrelated to "1940 in television" which is the current title of this article... Does anyone agree with that? Actually, the more I look at the addition of this section to an article that includes the chronology of events pertaining to the technology and its development, the less I understand the even remote connection that a "births section" would provide to an intelligent comprehension of its inclusion. Without being sarcastic, which I am frightfully close to over the extreme disconnect of the two topics, is there any possible explanation for its inclusion? Please show me the light... I think the original purpose of this section (as well as the Deaths section) was to list the birthdays of well-known TV personalities (something that is related to "year in television"). The practice goes back to at least 2004, and so far you are the first one to question it :) Whether the section belongs here or not, I can't say, but in my opinion it does provide some marginal value. The Events sections of the 1920s/1930s pages are indeed heavy on the development of technology, but as you get into the 1940s and 1950s, the technological aspects start to fade and more TV-specific events show up. It's not as hard to relate deaths/births with those.
