Al Capone?[edit]

Al Capone? Hmmm... more like potential "George Magazine"/"Esquire" cover man. "Phiber Optik - Hacking chicks boxes, riding in Supra's, and creating an institution from one racial slur!"

TAKE IT BACK, TOBY! Take that jargon file back!

(Sorry, i was stoned when I wrote that. I feel like a cyber-rebel......) Ismeusu (talk) 22:09, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not a copyvio[edit]

I wrote the first version of this article offline. It is not a copyvio, despite its length (1500 words). All claims are supported in the references. — David Remahl 05:19, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Pic request[edit]

I have put a request for a picture on WP:RP...Lets hope someone finds one. I've also mailed Emmanuel Goldstein of 2600 Magazine and will mail Phiber himself and ask if they could license one of their personal photographs under GFDL. — David Remahl 05:08, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

What happened to this guy?[edit]

Totally fallen off the edge of cyberspace. Last thing google brings up on him is like from 1999

Rest assured, I'm very much alive. No one has ever contacted me about updating this page, though my e-mail address is painfully easy to come by. --Mark/Phiberoptik 17:13, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You seem like a pleasant kind of person. I hope this Al Capone cyberspace thing works out for you. Nerd >:P --Aristeo 02:54, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's also on irc.2600.net sometimes - That statement almost makes me want to cry. He's still hanging out with the Wookie? I thought he gave Corley a miss. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.13.159.189 (talk) 18:15, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Minor at 22?[edit]

In the article, it is stated that at the time of first arrest, Phiberoptik was a minor, dated '94. However, it is said earlier in the passage that he was born in 1972. Is the birthdate wrong or the arrest date, or is it just misworded?

Move[edit]

If he’s “better known” as Phiber, why isn’t the article there? —133t d3wd 23:02, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's because he's not overwhelmingly known as Phiber Optik. I know I've seen "Mark Abene" only a little less than "Phiber Optik", and some Google queries seem to back up my impression. --Gwern (contribs) 01:31 28 January 2007 (GMT)
Certainly Mark Abene isn’t completely unknown on Google, but that’s only because grown-ups like to mention people’s “real” names whenever doing a story on them (like, if Forbes does a story on Master P, they won’t be able to resist calling him Percy.) I can’t imagine that anybody actually talking about him in a historical context (like, other hackers) would call him anything but Phiber Optik. I certainly wouldn’t have remembered his given name if I hadn’t just posted on this talk page —Wiki Wikardo 04:04, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who Was Behind The 1990 AT&T Long Distance Collapse?[edit]

I never found this out anywhere.

It's certainly possible that it was a software glitch, and unrelated to any hacking.

Family Guy Guy (talk) 13:30, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're kidding, right? Try doing a google search for "at&t 1990 crash". There's PLENTY of information on the subject, from books and articles, to technical descriptions of the analysis of AT&T's coding error in the software update to their 4ESS switches. Sounds like you didn't look very hard. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mark abene (talkcontribs) 04:01, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I read the book "masters of deception" by quittner and it didn't give any answer, it was ambiguous. Or did AT&T tell the truth after it was written? Family Guy Guy (talk) 16:13, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
