Season page[edit]

Good job so far on the 2008 Rochester Red Wings season page. I'll be curious to see how this goes over with the baseball wikiproject as they are generally opposed to most coverage of minor league baseball. I believe this is the first season page for a minor league team on Wikipedia. I recently began making pages for the Kinston Indians' seasons over at Baseball Reference's wiki, the Bullpen. I encourage you to contribute over there as well if you have the time. Good luck on this page. Kinston eagle (talk) 12:53, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just like to point out that it was User:Branson03 that started the MiLB season pages. Proper credit to him. But thanks!-Philatio (talk) 04:43, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That one user might have been confused. Ruth played for the minor league Baltimore Orioles, as well as Providence. Obviously, he never played for the major league Orioles, as the Browns didn't move to Ruth's home town until 6 years after he died. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 02:38, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't even think about that! -Philatio (talk) 03:15, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You were right to revert it, though. They don't normally list minor league clubs in the infoboxes. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 03:36, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I just meant I didn't even think about the fact that the Orioles weren't even a ML team at the time! Philatio (talk) 03:41, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I turned in that one user "Imakewikipediacrazy" at WP:AIV. Although not active at that moment, he was a vandalism-only account, and I thought that fact along with his policy-defying name might buy him a permanent block. It did. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 11:07, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Riccardo Ingram[edit]

I don't know how to shrink the photo in an infobox. I don't get why it's stretching it beyond its normal size. You might try asking an admin and see where they send you. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 05:28, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In the {{mlbretired}} template, there's an optional parameter for image width. I added it and set it to 150px as the image is only 159px wide to begin with. Daniel Case (talk) 13:45, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pater Patriae[edit]

I have given the user a warning that they're getting close to 3rr. You can, of course, make one more revert but you did the right thing going to me first. If this continues, we can protect the page. Consider tagging the edit with {{fact}} instead of just reverting. Daniel Case (talk) 21:37, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I, on the other hand, have concerns that it might violate our username policy. While I don't personally find it offensive, it is potentially so, which can "make harmonious editing difficult or impossible". You may want to consider having it changed, Phil. Powers T 12:58, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stu has curly hair in the back, while Stan's is evenly cut. At the start of the year Stu had a little more of a tan, but I think they've evened out by now. Figured out who was who in the first place by watching who would goto the mound to talk to the pitcher and who went to the mound to take the pitcher out. -Philatio (talk) 20:33, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with image uploads from Flickr[edit]

Hi, thanks for uploading so many great images onto Wikipedia. However, I noticed some problems with some of your recent uploads from Flickr. The licenses that you put on some of the baseball photographs when you uploaded them are not the same as the licenses that these photos have on Flickr. If you click on the blue "some rights reserved" link at the bottom of each Flickr page, you can see the detailed description of an image's license. If the license says "non-commercial" and/or "no derivatives", then the image is not a free license that is suitable for Wikipedia. Here is a list of the Creative Commons licenses that are not suitable for Wikipedia.

These are the problematic images. Their Flickr licenses mean that they are not suitable for Wikipedia. I haven't tagged them for deletion yet so that you can compare the Wikipedia licenses with the Flickr ones. I suggest that you tag them for deletion. (They qualify for speedy deletion under criterion I9, {{Db-i9}}). I'll tag them myself in a day or so, if you don't get around to it.

I hope this is helpful. If I can help you with anything in the future, feel free to leave a message on my talk page. All the best, Bláthnaid 22:14, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've had the same experience on Flickr, where I've come across a great image and then realised that its license isn't compatible with Wikipedia. It's definitely annoying when that happens! One of the images you uploaded is OK, if that's any consolation. Thanks for taking some of the other images out of their articles. There's an instruction page here about obtaining images for Wikipedia, if you ever want to do that. If you need to double-check any Flickr image's license to see if it can be uploaded here, feel free to drop me a note. :-) Bláthnaid 18:34, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, an editor has removed most of that section, so there are a few more eyes on the article now. What is left in the much shortened paragraph looks OK. There are some more sources here and here if you want to add them to the article. If you notice more unsourced or badly sourced contentious information about this person is being added to the article, you can remove the information straight away under the biographies of living people policy -- "Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material about living persons — whether the material is negative, positive, or just questionable — should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion". Image sourcing issue[edit]

Hi, Phil. I took the liberty of moving your image File:EBnursery.jpg to Commons (as File:Ellwanger & Barry nursery advertisement.jpg), but an editor there has expressed concern about the lack of a source on the image. Do you know where that image came from? Without a source, the file risks deletion. Powers T 03:47, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The image is from their catalog which is all pre-1923 public domain stuff I assume. Phil5329 (talk)
Hi, similar issue about File:Rochester - 1865 flood.jpg, could you provide some sourcing info, even though the copyright status is obviously ok? Thanks a lot. --Eusebius (talk) 12:34, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Marlo Stanfield[edit]

Regarding this tag. The paragraph begins "In the mid-1980s, Timmirror Stanfield was a major Baltimore drug trafficker", the sentence you tagged is the ending "Marlo is based on this real life criminal.", referring to Timmirror. Darrenhusted (talk) 19:13, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Billy Martin[edit]

How exactly does it not fit in there? Dude was a lush--he didn't "have a drinking problem" he was a full fledged card carrying alcoholic. Why PC up his life. He died in a car accident (though not driving--so they say) after basically drinking everything but Listerine, Mantle basically said Billy was an alkie. It's sad and all but it's the truth. Why put it in there as a "problem", a "problem" would be drinking every weekend...Martin drank so much he almost turned Kentucky dry.--seattlehawk94 (talk) 10:27, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. I don't think the original writer meant to suggest that Martin wasn't an alcoholic. I don't think anyone would deny that he was an alcoholic. -Phil5329 (talk) 18:30, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dude, sorry for being a bit pissed off, but I put that link on there over 8 months ago. I had a dispute over Scott Hall's Official site with the person now running it, and they cut me out. So now I guess she saw that my chat was on his wikipedia and she took it off, with no right. It clearly states that it is a fan chat and not official. I believe it should stay, since there really aren't any mediums through which fans of Scott Hall can chat, comfortably. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Outsiderdf (talkcontribs) 03:08, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I understand where you are coming from, but it is not about self promotion or promotion of anything. It is again, to provide a medium for Scott Hall fans to chat. I receive NO PERKS or MONEY from this chat. Nor am I trying to make it into something it's not. Outsiderdf (talk) 03:18, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well technically the link has been inserted to promote the website, otherwise why put it there? Therefore it technically violates the SPAM rules. -Phil5329 (talk) 03:23, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well technically, then, why put any link anywhere? LOL. Why are the other links left there? Aren't they promoting their site? The links are there to let people know about it. The chat used is fully made and owned by an independent website and not mine. On that website it clearly states that the chats are not to be used for any kind of promotion or money-making.
