Backlash to The Stranglers[edit]

There was a backlash to punk (or new wave) music by the 'establishment', in the wake of the Sex Pistols' infamous appearance on the Bill Grundy show (whatever it was called). Because of that, numerous venues refused to book The Stranglers (and other bands), so The Stranglers temporarily called themselves The Shakespearoes and played a few gigs under that name. Though if you are going to write it I would say its more a 'moral panic around punk' than a 'backlash to punk', with the 'backlash to The Stranglers' being the 'they're not punks...they're pub rockers' trope, with The Stranglers (and The Police) being singled out as recently as Friday 6th November 2020 on BBC Four's Punk and New Wave Years with Annie Nightingale (i.e. they were a bit older than most on the punk scene and could play their instruments) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.154.173.247 (talk) 12:52, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline[edit]

Walk On By picture sleeve[edit]

Wrong reference[edit]

Under Legacy section, there is a sentence claiming that No More Heroes song was featured in American TV show Queer as Folk ("No More Heroes" was featured...in the third episode of the second season of the American TV show Queer as Folk"). As reference (62), the following website is given: "Queer as Folk Music" (Princessofbabylon.com). However, this website is a hard core pornographic site laced with code that starts automatic download of malicious executable binaries for mobile devices.

I checked whether a better reference could be found. What better reference could be if not Wikipedia itself, right? So I checked the article for Queer as Folk soundtracks. Unfortunately, the article does not mention No More Heroes as part of the soundtrack of Queer as Folk TV series. I checked IMDB and few other sites and could not find any reference to no More Heroes being in Queer as Folk.

I suggest that the part of the sentence with the above described claim be removed and if not removed, at least remove the reference to Princessofbabylon.com website.

Why I don't do it? I tried similar edit in the past but it was rejected "because of IP and not registered WP user. I won't try again just to be overruled by WP "regulars".
