Round Tower[edit]

Well, I went to look up the book and found the ISBN number does not exist. So I searched on the title and found ISBN 1860591140 Irish Round Towers (Irish treasures series) by Roger Stalley Publisher: Country House. Amazon.com has a 1-2 month shipping time on this title and its sales rank puts in the category of rarelysold, in addition no other book quotes from this book according to Amazons database, a further sign of its obscurity. Further I discovered there are dozens of books on this same subject. So I concluded this is not a notable book in this field of study, just one of many non-scholarly popular titles. So I searched for a book that is notable and replaced it with one that stands out from the crowd, since Wikipedia lists notable and important titles, not comprehensive bibliographys of every book published, or editors favorites. Basically, there has to be some kind of justification or reason why this book is notable enough to be listed and not the dozens of others. Stbalbach 09:29, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

caveat my original edit did have a typo (so fair play for your diligence in fact checking) - an extra 5 in the ISBN, that aside I find your method and criteria slightly out of whack, Amazon.com "5-7 weeks " for lalor versus "1-2 months" for stalley + 1 review from a book reading club in wisconsin. I could say ;-) "Basically, there has to be some kind of justification or reason why this book is notable enough to be listed and not the dozens of others.". I purchased the Stalley book in the National Museum of Ireland (which must have some idea about things ancient in ireland), Stalley is a Professor of the History of Art at Trinty College Dublin, he has published 3-4 books on various aspects of ancient irish history, and on on a victorian architect. I have read the Salley book (or to fair to it - booklet) found it a good source of knowledge and information on round towers and at the time decided it was a valid addition to the article. I therefore am going to return my reference, with the end result being that between the both of us, over the last month we have added two references on a subject where before there was none. best regards Kglavin 00:25, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Ok good points, fair enough, Stally stays.Stbalbach 05:07, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

National Ploughing Championships[edit]

hi, I got a list of venues from the NPA in the post this morning of all Championships held since '31; it's amazing what you get when you ask I suppose. You may want to have a look over it to see if it might need some tidying. :)

Dublin image layout[edit]

Not sure if your intent to tidy up the layout of the Dublin article images had the result you expected. Placing the "climate" image on the right has now split the intro paragraph in 2, with a large amount of whitespace interfering with readability. If no objection, I may just move the whole image frame down to the "Dublin Region" section further down the page.

yes if you can make it tidier please do, the way it was the TOC was taking over the whole image. Kglavin 12:24, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

More on stamp images[edit]

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:M197-uh1d20mm.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stan 03:34, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Charles gavan duffy.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Charles gavan duffy.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. -- Longhair 02:40, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Orcad schematic capture.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Orcad schematic capture.PNG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 15:51, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spam in Caherdaniel[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Caherdaniel, by 66.93.209.195, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Caherdaniel is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Caherdaniel, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Caherdaniel itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 02:01, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Shenick Network Systems[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Shenick Network Systems, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Bardcom (talk) 15:44, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Beggars Bush[edit]

Looks like the site that was originally linked to has expired - it was originally a link to a history of Dublin. Thanks for removing the broken link. Autarch (talk) 13:14, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Mentor PADS PCB Layout.PNG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mentor PADS PCB Layout.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:10, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question re: feature seen in your level crossing photo[edit]

As seen in one of your photos, File:Farranfore_train_station.jpg, what are the raked wooden planks visible across the width of the trackbed just before the level crossing? I've noticed these before next to level crossings but never found out their purpose. Cheers, Christopher (talk) 10:29, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Orcad schematic capture.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Orcad schematic capture.PNG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please remove the tag.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:46, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The file File:Hsv1 hi.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused, low-res, no obvious use. Better files at c:Category:HSV-X1 Joint Venture (ship, 1998).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 08:53, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
