Adams[edit]

Isn't it a little inaccurate to say Adams was a member? Most accounts seem to report that he didn't get on very well with Footlights, joining instead CULES and later forming his own group.

That's what I thought. According to Don't Panic, joining Footlights was one of his motives in going to Cambridge, but he was very unimpressed with it "It had become a director's show, not a writer's show", and set up Adams-Smith-Adams instead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.18.173.0 (talk) 21:27, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Douglas Adams was a member of Footlights and came back after graduation to direct the tour show in 1976 ('A Kick in The Stalls'). He did become frustrated with several of the people in the club during his time as an undergraduate, though some of them made it into the Hitchhiker cast. I was club secretary in 1998 and Douglas Adams was guest speaker at the Footlights annual dinner in June that year, during which he talked about his memories of the club and had many suggestions for the committee at the time. Prestigious[edit]

I am not suggesting that the Cambridge Footlights is not prestigious, I am just slightly annoyed how this has become its epithet on every single one of its members' wikipedia pages. There are many prestigious things out there... no one writes 'The politician became an MP and thereby joined the prestigious UK Parliament'. Women[edit]

Was Sacha Baron Cohen in the Footlights?[edit]

W. S. Gilbert[edit]

W. S. Gilbert was listed on this page as a member. I do not believe this can be right (not least as he was born in 1836 and would have been 47(ish) when Footlights was founded. Believe confusion is because during first 9 years of Footlights, only already written shows were performed and one of Gilbert's plays (On Bail) was performed so he is listed on the Footlights website. By this logic, Jacques Offenbach would also be a member and he was dead by the time Footlights was founded. Theatre, shows, etc[edit]

Presidents[edit]

I do not see the point of having two lists, 'Past notable presidents' and 'List of presidents'. The former is jut a subset (subjectively chosen) of the latter. 109.149.212.105 (talk) 22:30, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

The "Past notable presidents" section helps readers to better identify with some of the more recent presidents - while the "List of presidents" shows in which years the various presidents were incumbents of the position. Hope this helps. Figaro (talk) 04:08, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

1981 Cambridge Footlights Revue[edit]

It is interesting that Rowan Atkinson took part in the 1981 Cambridge Footlights Revue because he attended Oxford University, where he studied for a degree in Electrical Engineering, and also where he received his Master's degree, and where he took part in Oxford Revues. As far as I am aware, Rowan Atkinson never attended Cambridge University. Does anyone know how Rowan Atkinson came to take part in the Footlights Revue (perhaps he attended Cambridge University for a PhD degree - or perhaps a Doctor of Engineering degree)?
