Shouldn't this be "Östmark"?
Isn't the Nazi-era use of this the best-known use, so it should be mentioned in the lead paragraph?
Should this be merged into the History of Austria rather than have a separate article? -- Jmabel 07:33, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I do not believe that it should be Östmark, since the German adjective form of East is "Ost", with no umlaut. -Antman

However, in German (at least Hochdeutsch, or High German), the word is Ostmark, with no Umlaut. -Antman = PS, how do you automatically make a timestamp?

Interlanguage[edit]

Though this article says that "Ostmark is a modern German term to translate the term "Ostarrîchi"" and "for the core territory of Austria, more or less modern Lower Austria.", this links to de:Sächsische Ostmark. It should be wrong. Additonally, There is another article for "Ostarrîchi" for the same contents. This is very confusing. There were actually two Ostmarks in modern times. The parts of West Prussia and Posen not ceded to Poland in 1919 were known as Ostmark during the 1920s and 30s. Wilhelm Kube was Gauleiter of Ostmark. Then after 1938 the term was applied to Austria. Adam 04:21, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I don't get it. Why should this article be interwikied to de:Sächsische Ostmark, an area that is in today's Saxony? There is no mention of this area in the article. This article is about a name for Austria. Chl 18:27, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
