Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Proposal

This is a policy proposal regarding Wikipedia:Templates for deletion, to close a policy gap on TfD. Currently, a template that is not in the template namespace has no proper place to go, since TfD doesn't allow it, and other deletion pages would likely send it back to TfD. Therefore,

Proposal: The Wikipedia:Templates for deletion page shall henceforth deal with any and all templates, regardless of the namespace they are in.

This was listed for Speedy Deletion for a while, but apparently it's not a valid criterion. I'll thus conclude that the proposal is valid. Consensus seems to be opposed though, so I'd welcome suggestions on other methods of dealing with this. Note that there's currently a query on Deletion Policy/talk about whether votes-by-template should be disallowed; maybe that should become policy. Radiant_* 12:13, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)

1. Thryduulf 15:08, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC). I would also support "The Wikipedia:Templates for deletion page shall henceforth deal with any and all templates, and pages used as templates, regardless of the namespace they are in." To avoid any bickering over the definition of a template.

Oppose

1. This proposal is ill-conceived. TFD should deal only with items in the Template namespace. Anything else will be a confusing mess, becuase you'd first have to agree something is a "template", then hold a vote. I have spoken to User:Radiant! and given suggestions as to a better approach to fighting off votes being made using templates or transcluded pages, which are both terrible practices. 3. I'm going to agree violently with Korath here. Extending TFD into the User: namespace amounts to an attempt to regulate people's behavior through an inappropriate channel, and an ineffective one at that. We have established processes to deal with disputed behavior. Deleting superfluous entries from the Template: space is a good thing to get rid of clutter and confusion, but it does absolutely nothing to prevent people from pasting in identical content. --iMb~Meow 15:57, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
