Cleanup link[edit]

Hi! I've been assigned the portmanteaus page for cleanup. But according to Merriam-Webster, the plural can be either portmanteaus or portmanteaux. Perhaps it would just be best then to create a portmanteaux page as a redirect? · Katefan0(scribble) 19:28, May 16, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Katefan, thanks for the message. I wasn't saying one form or the other is incorrect, I simply think Wikipedia should be consistent: do we want to have list of portmanteaus categorized in category:portmanteaux? Yes, both forms are correct, but inconsistent names make the encyclopaedia much harder to read and maintain. Daniel 20:56, 16 May 2005 (UTC)
Mmmm, I see what you're saying. I agree that there should be parallelism when possible, and this is not too taxing a task. I think what I'll do is just go in and fix the page links, and change the category:portmanteaux page to a redirect instead. Thanks. · Katefan0(scribble) 13:34, May 17, 2005 (UTC)
OK, since the -s pluralization is listed before the -x pluralization in M-W, that means the -s is used more commonly. So I've made List of portmanteaus the primary page and redirected List of portmanteaux, which also solves the category parallelism issue. I think that'll do it. All that remains then is to disambiguate pages that link to List of portmanteaux. · Katefan0(scribble) 14:05, May 17, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing this. Looks better now. Daniel 15:22, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
