Page names[edit]

Route 66 currently redirects to US Route 66, with a hatnote there to Route 66 (disambiguation). As US Route 66 is now historic, I wonder whether the disambig page should be the redirect target, or even be moved back here? All I know of Route 66 is the Rolling Stones recording of the song, and I suspect that a large and growing number of English speakers would be in this position. I'm not going to do anything like that unilaterally or urgently, but comments welcome. Andrewa 17:46, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted this: {{db-move|U.S. Route 66|the Wikipedia name "Route 66" should be the default to the actual route and not the disambiguation page as there are established Wikipedia rules regarding primary uses of terms. And the term "Route 66" has (still, to this very day) one single primary general English language use: a reference to the original route. This is a matter that is not in dispute (not even here in Wikipedia).}}
The articles on US Highway numbers are a series; each normally have names like U.S. Route 99 with just-plain Route 99 pointing to a disambiguation page. Changing this naming convention would affect more than just U.S. Route 66 (a fictional highway invented by Sally Carrera for Cars (film), a Pixar cartoon) as many "U.S. Route nn" articles refer to actual, real highways which currently exist. A proposed change to a naming convention which touches a little under a hundred articles therefore is not a non-controversial move and likely should be brought to WikiProject US Roads, WikiProject Disambiguation or other affected projects. Length?[edit]

Not going to chainge the page for a 3mi. (5km.) discrepancy, but everything I've ever read about Route 66 (also, I wasjust over 4 when it officially ceased being called Route 66) says that it was 2,451mi./3,945km., not 2,448mi./3,940km.ADg2k14 (talk) 02:28, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Route 66Route 66 (disambiguation) – And turn Route 66 into a redirect to U.S. Route 66. Clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, both by page views over five years ([1], [2]) and by its widespread and lasting cultural significance, as attested by the TV shows, films, songs, bands, companies, etc. on the disambiguation page which all refer to the US highway. Despite being decommissioned nearly 40 years ago, U.S. Route 66 remains in a class of its own; other articles about prominent highways don't even come close. • Support seems to be a clear primary topic (and where ~80% of people on the disambiguation page go, per this). Elli (talk | contribs) 07:13, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
