Disambiguation link notification for January 10[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited White House Office of Energy and Climate Change Policy, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mother Jones (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Replaceable fair use File:ElizabethColbertBusch-campaign.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:ElizabethColbertBusch-campaign.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 06:17, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:ElizabethColbertBusch-campaign.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:ElizabethColbertBusch-campaign.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:10, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the material in the original version of this article was very close to a source. That source turns out to have a license such that it can be reused. I see that someone has edited the article to remove the close comparison between the article and the source. Should there be further edits which incorporate material from the source that is acceptable but please be aware they must be attributed.--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:59, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IndyCar Series Template[edit]

Hello, could you please explain what you did with the Template:IndyCar Series. You do know what was reused across numerous years to avoid having to create a new template every year and having to list then all on a drivers page? Just very confused at what you're goals are on these edits? Esw01407 (talk) 13:03, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

reply
Thank you for the prompt reply, it now makes more sense, thanks for trying to improve IndyCar! There's one issue, you might have to contact an admin or post on the admin noticeboard to get the pages switched, as IndyCar Series has lost all it's edit history dating back to 2007, and that's needed to trace where edits have came from. It's an easy switch for them. Esw01407 (talk) 17:04, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Abuse of Color[edit]

I know it looks "cool" to have all that colour all over the the race numbers. But what is the reason for it? It demonstrates what the car looks like? How is that relevant to a table detailing qualifying results? It is a poor example of statistics creep. More importantly it runs specifically against wikipedias policies regarding overuse of colour. I advise you to read about it here at WP:COLOR. It a nutshell, those with vision impairments - specifically the colourblind - find tremendous difficulty reading text displayed in such a manner. So it looks pretty. So what? Readability trumps pretty everytime. Please don't do it again. --Falcadore (talk) 22:05, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the issue of livery colors int he qualifying tables in the IndyCar series race articles, I have indeed read the WP on Color and this was and is not "abuse". And to answer the salient point/question yes, the livery colors are there to convey the color of cars in a race in the quaffing tables (but not on the race results table). Again I have read the Colors WP and this is not violation of it since it does in fact convey useful information and does not prevent color blind people from reading the numbers, particularly sine the car/driver numbers are repeated int he race results table. So I will be doing re-adding the colors again because your opinion is not the arbiter of the applicability of livery colors (which have been used in many previous articles on races). Lestatdelc (talk) 22:41, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Then apparently you've missed the point. You don't do it, at all. Repeating the numbers elsewhere in the article doesn't mean a thing. And liviery of cars is not useful information. How does the colour of the cars affect the outcome of the race?
Also, when you state that colour blind users can just read the numbers in another table, that suggests the coloured race number column is not neccessary, AT ALL. --Falcadore (talk) 04:40, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And if I may ask, why is the liviery more important than describing how the race took place? I note for example 2015 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg contains no race description. --Falcadore (talk) 04:54, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't "miss the point" I simply disagree with your claims that this is A) settled by any group discussion. B) or abuse of color per WP (it isn't). and C) "simply don't do it" dictate.
As to why livery color is useful information, because myself and others have actually used the Wikipedia article (where the entrant/qualifying table exists with livery colors) as a spotters guide while watching live streaming of the race.
As to why there was no race description, that is because I have not (as yet) put the effort into somehow re-creating the description after the fact (as I am the only one to date to even make the article for that race which was a redirect to the 2015 Season article). If/when I have the time to go back and effectively recreate the race description from both the official results/event summary and any relevant sports article reportage. Of course others are certainly free to help do that work as well. Lestatdelc (talk) 00:36, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Spotter guide? That is not wikipedia's function. WP:NOTGUIDE. --Falcadore (talk) 03:23, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I must say I am finding tremendous difficulty in retrieving the discussion. I know it took place in around 2010 or 2009. It was referred to in 2012 but not specifically. I'm fully aware you don't have to accept any discussion purely on my word and it's frustrating as hell trying to find it. You certainly won't find it in Formula One discussions. --Falcadore (talk) 03:43, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK, it was done away with by mutual consent by all Indycar editors during 2009. There was no debate as such, because everyone agreed.

Talk:2009 IndyCar Series season --Falcadore (talk) 04:02, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If I came across as overbearing, than I apologise. --Falcadore (talk) 05:12, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. No worries, I can say I certainly became defensive in that I have been the only one even bothering to maintain (basically create) any of the race articles for this year's season (other than the Indy 500 article) which included the livery colors in the starting grid table. So spending several days going back and putting in other race articles to have it then devolve into an edit war over livery colors just rubbed me the wrong way. I apologize. Lestatdelc (talk) 17:24, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I must say I'm quite struck by the fact that both of you managed to edit war on 8 different articles over a bit of color, while at the same time you allowed the lead of one of those articles to state it is a scheduled race to be held until I fixed that ten days after the race had happened. Tvx1 21:36, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Given that the livery color dispute was settled on the 5th, two days prior to the Firestone Race being run, your snarking is misplaced. However, thank you for fixing the tense in one of the sentences I missed. Lestatdelc (talk) 23:28, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Timestamps in the above discussion on the matter run until 7 June, the day after the race. The article in question was twice [1][2] edited regarding the colors on 6 June, on the day of the race. Therefore my comment was not that misplaced. But that was not my point. My point was that both of you made the effort of edit warring on 8 different articles over a couple of days, but later failed to make the much more useful effort of updating the lead. Even ten days after the race it still hadn't been changed. Tvx1 10:20, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it is misplaced because none of those edits on the 6th or the 7th touched the livery color dispute which had been settled by race day. That you are somehow going out of your way to want to stir the pot is your problem. Not mine or Falcadore's. Lestatdelc (talk) 19:10, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jan de Lichte moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Jan de Lichte, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. buidhe 21:21, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning a template which you originally created[edit]

Template:Election box US candidate with swing (and Template:Election box US candidate with party link) is, where required, used for write-ins or partial candidatures (such as when an independent runs without a running mate). This causes some quirky results in articles, such as at this one. I am foremost not so sure that the state information is particularly important (since removing it would solve the issue); but more importantly I ask if it would be too much trouble to check for whether the listed party name is "write-in" and make a special case (something of a similar vein to what I did at the mentioned article). If possible, this would be much simpler than having to fix this manually or via bot. If not possible or if you are not involved with this anymore, please advise where you believe the appropriate place to discuss this would be. Thanks, 107.190.33.254 (talk) 19:13, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Kari Chisholm has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
