Okay, Steinsky, I see your point about people not reaching this article when they type "duma" into a URL. But shouldn't other dumas still be linked from this article? The disambiguation notice is only used on a page with an ambiguous title, e.g. "Duma" or "London", and not on pages with unambiguous titles like London, Ontario. If other places with the same name are relavant, e.g. if there are other things named after this Duma, they can be mentioned in the article. I could see a reader clicking on a piped link to Ukrainian Duma and expect to see an article about the country's parliament. Especially since Russian is widely used in Ukraine. Some confusion could be alleviated if there was a link here. —MichaelZ. 2005-05-9 19:19 Z

"Should" sounds like a comforting hypothesis. Are you saying that every single link and query result on the Internet will make the distinction between duma (epic) and duma (council) clear? Are you also saying that it will never be of interest to someone that the word duma has a different meaning in another, closely releated East Slavic language? Yes, I'm saying that nobody linking to the council would link to a page whose name makes it quite clear it is not the council, and quite impossible to accidently link to. Nobody is going to put "Duma (epic)" in the search box when looking for the council, they would put "Duma", which will have the disambiguation link. Even if the fact that the word does mean more than one thing were anything more than trivia, the disambiguation link would not be the correct way to link to it.
