Pull Modern Usage to Top and Add How To Guide Section[edit]

As this page is written currently it makes General Strikes appear to be something anachronistic to our times and out of touch with the regular person on the street. This article currently makes GS appear to be something for elite academic socialists to debate rather than the thing that everyday fast food workers or knowledge workers concerned with climate change or moms concerned with gun violence would understand and use.

I'd like to propose to everyone monitoring this page that we make this article far more relevant and useful with two changes. I made these changes before but they were overwritten by others. So I am proposing them here with their rational to build consensus.

1) BLUF - BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT

Let's move the section on the modern avatar and usage of general strike out of the history and up to its own section just below the definition. Currently the history section is very detailed, but to get to the modern avatar and usage of General Strikes you have to scroll to the middle of the page. Arguably, the modern avatar and usage of general strikes is the most relevant thing to a reader.

2) How To Guide

Let's add a factual and common sense "how to guide" for organizing and participating in a modern general strike. It would be of valuable importance for visitors to this site to have some practical guide to how to organize or participate within a general strike.

Only after these two modern and relevant sections should come the long and storied academic history of the general strike.

Thoughts? Ajbraus (talk) 16:09, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Ajbraus: When I expanded this back in February, I ran out of time before really getting into the modern day, which is why it kind of stops there. If you want to add more modern history that you feel will be more relevant to the reader, please feel free.
As for your proposed changes:
  1. I'm confused what you mean by "modern avatar". Which section of the article are you suggesting be moved up? I'm definitely not opposed to moving stuff above the history section, like building an "Overview" section to have at the beginning.
  2. Wikipedia not a how-to guide. This might be why your attempt to add one were reverted.
Are there any reliable sources that you can suggest for expanding the article in the direction you'd like to see? -- Grnrchst (talk) 16:42, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
