Keep it. Period.[edit]

--- Anyone want to make note that Strummer's "wolf-like howls or perhaps Rooster-like crows" were, according to JS himself, in imitation of the gulls that flock around the Thames?

Is there a name for these noises? I remember a vid of roger waters doing them. John Wilcox 23:15, 4 August 2007 (UTC) ---[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Single10.jpg[edit]

Image:Single10.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:15, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Noel Coward song of that name[edit]

There's a 1923 Noel Coward song of that very name, too; --tickle me 04:32, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Phoney Beatlemania[edit]

This section "While many took the line as a slam against the Beatles, another interpretation, offered at the time the song was released, suggested that this line referred not to the Beatles, but to the Broadway production, Beatlemania, which advertised itself as "Not the Beatles, But an Incredible Simulation." Hence, the line castigated late 1970s culture for its lack of substance, such as consuming "phoney Beatlemania," essentially a simulated, rather than actual, experience." strikes me as OR - I'd like to see some citations for the Broadway Beatlemania bit. It reads as an American interpretation of the genesis of this song, and I don't believe it is at all likely that a late 70s British punk band would have paid any attention to what the advertising tag for a New York musical theatre show was, let alone be bothered enough by it to include it in the lyrics of a song. Part of the punk movement in the UK was to reject US influences - for the first time you hear people singing in British accents, and rejecting cheesy US pop. Occam's Razor surely applies here - the simplest and most obvious explanation is the one most likely to be true - that they were referencing Beatlemania as it occured at the height of a new musical movement, just as they were riding the wave of another, punk. Of course my musings are OR, but I'm not putting them into the article. I think the Broadway bit should definitely come out unless it can be sourced. 81.129.134.183 (talk) 15:51, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

drumming[edit]

Really sorry that I don't know how to do this, but how is the drumming "without a backbeat". Kick on the accent (one) snare on the off-count (three). Am I missing something? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.241.63.87 (talk) 15:40, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reference to Riots[edit]

It can't be a reference to "London Riots at the time" as there were no London riots at the time. Brixton riots were in 1981. The riots at the notting hill festival were a few years ago. It is more likely to just be a reference to police brutality, that was commonly perceived especially by left wing/multicultural parts of the community. Many of these pent up problems were discussed by the later Scarman Report. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.168.95.144 (talk) 04:37, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See the Notting Hill riots in 1976. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.7.147.13 (talk) 13:54, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Last 3 paragraphs under Writing and Recording[edit]

Last 3 paragraphs under Writing and Recording need severely cleaned up. "Strummer's icy lyrics and baleful delivery. Strummer's howls during the instrumental break further fuel the atmosphere of paranoia." Come on now. It was written like a review. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zackbrown2 (talkcontribs) 04:00, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
