Progressive Rock[edit]

This album definitely stands out as Sabbath's progressive record and should be added to the genre box. Iommi himself has said this wasn't a "rock album".

Problem is it has no prog rock elements that swerve it far enough from heavy metal to make it anything more than just another Black Sabbath heavy metal album.. no different then any other Black Sabbath heavy metal album. Tony Iommi could've said he felt it was a country album... Lemmy says Motorhead isn't a heavy metal band... Robert Plant says Led Zeppelin aren't a heavy metal band either... but that's certainly what both of them are regardless of what the artist says. On Wikipedia it's all about cites from reliable sources. Libs 03:27, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, anything to further the light. All hail wikipedia. Revan ltrl (talk) 16:14, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, this is totally offtopic but Led Zeppelin IS NOT heavy metal, not in the slightest way, even. KirillM (talk) 14:30, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree about Led Zeppelin. Not metal in any way. You also fail to see (apart from your misspellings) that the guitarist himself is the best, most reliable source we'll ever find on this matter, and not, say, allmusicguide, which lowers this site to second-hand source-status. I think it's perfectly fine to cite it as progressive metal.Revan ltrl (talk) 00:41, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Iommi said that it wasn't a rock album. Progressive rock is a subgenre of rock, so if we go by what he said, we won't be able to describe it as progressive rock. And please don't make childish remarks when you don't get your way. That's well... childish. --John of Lancaster (talk) 17:47, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How exactly is this not a rock album? Even if it's not heavy metal, it's still rock. It sounds like rock, and uses all the elements of rock. Tony Iommi is mistakened. TheEarthboundFan2001 (talk) 03:59, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

AC/DC covering Black Sabbath?[edit]

I took the liberty of taking the part where it says AC/DC covered Killing Yourself to Live since this is very unlikely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.118.213.147 (talk) 01:59, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to this reference they did cover it. J04n(talk page) 02:05, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I sincerely doubt that AC/DC would cover Killing Yourself to Live, or did for that matter. As a matter of fact, that seems to me like a pretty unreliable source. The only thing AC/DC had to do with Black Sabbath was that they toured with them for a few dates during the Technical Ecstacy tour. I will believe this foolish statement if I actually hear audio of AC/DC doing it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.118.213.147 (talk) 20:01, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I request someone looks into this with a credible source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.118.213.147 (talk) 02:26, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

there is a dead link that is supposed to show the back of the albums gatefold. I cant hepl more because i am injured at the moment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.40.92.5 (talk) 22:11, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am changing the dead link of the artwork of the back of the albums gatefold to a working one. 95.45.113.179 (talk) 19:33, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Doom[edit]

I removed doom metal because this album isn't any "doomier" than other black sabbath records 5.169.76.165 (talk) 23:37, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nose flute?[edit]

It's mentioned by Jeff Wagner on page 12 of his 2010 book Mean Deviation: Four Decades of Progressive Heavy Metal here. But it's hardly conclusive. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:53, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
