sex[edit]

A minor's or an adult's sexual attraction to adults? Wouldn't there be another term for an adult's sexual attraction to another adult? (ie. normalcy) Otherwise, a (post)pubescent adolescent's sexual attraction to an adult would mirror the term ephebophile, which is an adult's sexual attraction to a post-pubescent adolescent. 132.205.15.4 05:05, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)

That's dumb. "Normalcy" was 13 year olds marrying people 13-60 500 years ago. The term philia is an inaccurate explanation of the behavior. The APA refuses to make adult attraction to pubescents (e.g. teens) into a mental illness, despite it being illegal. That is "normal" to them enough so to not classify it as one.

Philia is a negative connotated, although close approximation, of a shorthand version of explaining attraction.

Or, if you go the route of describing a philia as a sole or overriding interest or an actual mental illness, then the phrase teleiophilia as applied to adults would describe adults who are focused strictly on the 20-40 age range, and therefore have a philia because they cannot find anything else sexually attractive, above or below that range.

That's all philia means anyway, so if you're an adult and you only find adults attractive, you have teleiophilia. That's normal to you. Therefore it is not wrong to have that "philia". You could even argue that philia is healthy if you think it should be this way, and when a person who is 20 is attracted to 60 year olds and only 60 year olds, known as gerontophilia, then that is unhealthy. This is premised on the belief system which says that attraction to similar age is healthy and differing age is not healthy, which you have.

So a philia might be healthy in one way, or it might not be healthy in another way. Philia in this context does not in itself imply mental health or illness. That's a decision left to the social mores and special interest groups. Is it unhealthy for a 20 year old to date a 60 year old? Lots of people would think the 20 year old is being abused. therefore they would consider the 20 year old's sexual preference unhealthy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.143.9.169 (talk) 09:17, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
