Aika hassuja nuo "viralliset käännökset" Asia kuitenkin on niin että Kaartin pataljoona ja Kaartin jääkärirykmentti ovat jäänteitä Suomen Vanhasta Kaartista, joka nimenomaan pitää kääntää "Old Guard of Finland".

Avainsana on vanha

— Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.179.127.251 (talk) 10:14, 4 April 2004 (UTC)[reply]

(note to non-finns: discussion is of the meaning of "old Guard" vs. "Old Guard")
I knew about the "Guard" title being added to units but not the "Old". Go ahead and change it! But we agree now on that the "Guard Jaeger Regiment" should be the correct translation for "Kaartin jääkärirykmentti"? -- Jniemenmaa 11:17, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Mesoso2 thought that the correct name should be "Huntsmans' Guard Regiment" which is not a very good translation and is not used anywhere. On the other hand, FDF uses] Guard Jaeger Regiment. The word Jaeger originally means, indeed. "hunter", but that is not the Finnish meaning of the word jääkäri.

BTW, the official name of the old Guard of Finland was "3rd Finnish sharpshooter battallion of the imperial guard" (in Finnish, Keisarillisen Henkivartiokaartin 3. suomalainen tarkk'ampujapataljoona). --MPorciusCato (talk) 06:48, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
