Jachido[edit]

Since the official web site of Jeju calls itself "Jeju Special Self-Governing Province", is it not better that all instances of teukbyeol jachido be translated into similar terminology? -- 129.78.64.106 13:45, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Special City" or "Metropolitan Government"[edit]

I searched the official English name of 서울특별시 (literally, "Special City of the Capital" or "Seoul Special City") in 영문표기사전 (an internet dictionary to search official English names of organizations affiliated under the South Korean Goverment) administered by the Seoul City Hall. "Seoul Special City" does not exist in the DB but Seoul Metropolitan Government does (the captured image). Examples are below.

The official English website of the Seoul City Hall[1] are also using the name "Seoul Metropolitan Government" not "Seoul Special City".

I suggest to change the word "Special City" to "Metropolitan Government" in all the Seoul related-articles and templates in English Wikipedia. Hmm...but does Seoul Metropolitan Government describe the city, or does it describe the government of the city? The information in the table above describes departments and offices of the local government. Surely Seoul Metropolitan Government is not the appropriate moniker for Seoul? Agreed; "special city" can be reserved for articles such as this one, for which the distinction between 광역시 and 특별시 is relevant. For the record, it is worth noting that the SMG government itself uses the term on such occasions, for example 'It was renamed the "Special City of Seoul" on August 15, 1949, one year after the inauguration of the Republic of Korea Government.' Jeollabuk, etc.[edit]

I have never heard of anyone calling 전라북도 "Jeollabuk" in English. It is either Jeollabuk-do or North Jeolla. What is the point of this "Jeollabuk" here? As well as Chungcheongbuk, Jeollanam, etc.? Ri hwa won (talk) 12:18, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Map problem[edit]

Daejeon is listed twice on the map. Gwangju is supposed to be on the map but is labeled as Daejeon. CalBears99 (talk) 19:51, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
