Sosabowski[edit]

Thanks for the compliments, it's always nice to know that someone's actually reading those articles you spend so much time on. As to his fate after the fall of Warsaw - I'm not sure. I read some biography some time ago, but I doubt I have it at home. If the sosabowski.com site says that he escaped from captivity rather than evaded it - please feel free to correct this. 142.22.186.7[edit]

It's a bit dodgy since he's not all that prolific a vandal. We don't normally ban IP addresses for long periods of time, so I don't know if it's worth it... Evercat 02:11, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

It is called a typo[edit]

It's called a typo, you're injection of attitude is of course never appreciated. Agriculture 06:51, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Moving a Page[edit]

Please see Wikipedia:How to rename (move) a page before moving a page next time. As is clearly stated you should not execute cut and paste moves. Doing so does not preserve the history. In the future if you are unsure how to do something please ask a more experienced user. We are all glad to help out. Agriculture 08:12, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Additionally please research your claims before posting them. Please see the talk page at Talk:The_University_of_Illinois_Willard_Airport about your confusion of IATA and ICAO codes. Agriculture 09:49, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Richmond Vandalism[edit]

Thanks for reverting all of that "Fist City" vandalism on the Richmond, Virginia page! As a compromise we have left one reference to "Fist City" in the Mottos section. I just wanted to let you know incase you stopped by again and thought it vandalism. Anyway thanks! --MaxPower 16:27, 2005 Feb 17 (UTC)

Canadian Pacific Railway[edit]

Thanks for your congratulations and for your contributions; it's nice to see the article featured after all the work I've put into it. As for when it'll be on the front page, I'm probably going to do a bit more cleanup on the article first and then, maybe next week or so, make a request on Wikipedia talk:Tomorrow's featured article (after which Raul typically schedules the article within the next few weeks, depending on what else is scheduled). JYolkowski 20:45, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi Fawcett5 - no problem re. the red wikis I introduced to the CPR page - I'll try to get at least stub articles going on those ASAP. Cheers,Plasma east 09:41, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Re: Route map of The Canadian[edit]

I am not sure I would call it 'expertise' but I'll see what I can do. :-) Were you imagining a national route map showing the whole Ottawa/Toronto to Vancouver trip? I'll see about working on it this weekend. Cheers, Al guy 15:06, Mar 4, 2005 (UTC)

  • I just finished adding a map (Image:TheCanadian_RouteMap.png). It is pretty easy to change things (text, cropping, colours, route placement, etc.) so please let me know if you have any suggestions. Al guy 01:34, Mar 6, 2005 (UTC)

Re: Inter-Ocean Railway[edit]

Although I know I have read about this venture somewhere, I don't have the information handy... Will do some checking of my collection of research material and try to find it, but can't make any promises. Cheers, Plasma east 06:48, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

FAC[edit]

Hi, Fawcett5, what a nice flattering FAC vote you posted for Colley Cibber, thanks very much. Accolades, mmmmmmmm... I love 'em, can't get enough of 'em. Bishonen | Talk 17:54, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

My article creation....[edit]

Continuing the discussion that we started to stray into on Talk:Canadian Locomotive Company, another of my creations (Franklin B. Gowen) is working its way through FAC right now, and I've stubbed an article for John B. Jervis yesterday. As I add and substantially update pages, I'm updating my list at User:Slambo/Trains. I noticed the El Capitan article and I've got some information on equipment and schedules to add to that one as soon as I can get out my references. slambo 16:27, Mar 10, 2005 (UTC)

Move to wiktionary[edit]

I don't want to go through a Vfd for every real object in wikipedia, so how about we see what happens to Sea sock first? Kappa 23:13, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Louis Riel[edit]

Hi Fawcett5, thanks very much for the note about Louis Riel - was good to work with you on Lord Dufferin (we may have more to do, his FAC nomination only has three votes at the moment!), and I'll be glad to help as far as I can with Louis Riel. Reading up on him now - interesting story and will make a great featured article. Cheers - Worldtraveller 12:21, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the great work you've been doing on this article. Carry on! Denni 00:04, 2005 Mar 24 (UTC)

Nice work on the Louis Riel article, Fawcett5 -- I've thought for a while that with some work it should be a featured article, and it looks like you're going to be the one who takes it there. -- Oarih 17:10, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hello. I have enjoyed working with you on Louis Riel and related articles too. As CWood is currently in town visiting me, I will not have too much time to do much wikiing over the next week. However, she may have some time while I am at work to extend this section. She is also more qualified than I on this particular topic. I'll probably only dabble over the next week, then get back to it with more force once she finally leaves me alone. -- JamesTeterenko 05:13, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words. I've just been through it again to revert some bad edits that were made. I guess I'll have to watch it a little more closely this week. B-) slambo 14:14, Mar 23, 2005 (UTC)

Dinelle's foodmart[edit]

WFT would a real but isloated with low fame grocery store in Echo Bay, Ontario be interpreted as stealth/fiction on Wikipedia?

I have the best intentions for Wikipedia and VfD shouldn't spark any suspicion. Sometimes, I run out of articles to generate, and I find some minor but interesting topics to type about. please forgive me; I changed my nickname because I found out that GoofyGuy sparked suspicion. --TheSamurai 01:44, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Aboriginal Canada[edit]

Thanks for correcting my mistake of moving the North-West Rebellion, Red River Rebellion, and Red River Colony articles solely into the Category:Métis history. I made those changes after a long series of edits and was too rash to take them out of Category:Canadian history, my apologies.

With regards to the Aboriginal subcategories I've made in Category:Canadian First Nations, I understand your concern but I feel they are needed. Please see Talk:Aboriginal peoples in Quebec for the discussion that went on between myself and Mathieugp before I created them. I chose "Aboriginal peoples in ..." instead of "Aboriginal peoples of ..." for the reasons you also cited, the arbitraryness of the geopolitical boundries in use today. "Of" implies belonging to this arbitrary creation, "in" is just a location. When I began those subcategories there were roughly +60 nations in Category:Canadian First Nations and I felt that this was overwhelming to someone new to the topic and so could be improved. Geopolitical boundries offer more structure compared to geographic terms like "Plains" or "Pacific Coast", and are helpful to newcomers to the subject. I see the merits of not using geopolitical boundries but I feel their advantages outweigh their disadvantages.

Also, as you have probably noticed, the Category:Métis and Category:Inuit currently lie under the Category:Canadian First Nations. This is incorrect as they are not First Nations, but First Peoples or aboriginals using the Government of Canada's Department of Indian and Northern Affairs naming guidelines [1]. Therefore, a new higher-level category is needed to encompass all three. I'm unsure of what the best name for this category would be. "Aboriginal Canada"? "Canadian First Peoples"? "Aboriginal Canadians"? "Canadian Aboriginal peoples"? Do you have suggestions for this?

My original intent with including Category:Métis history in Category:Canadian history was to give it equal weight alongside Category:Canadian First Nations. This returns to the incorrectness of the Métis and Inuit being under the Canadian First Nations umbrella. I recognize that having Métis history in Canadian history may be improper because the Métis are an ethnic group, but I had felt that because Category:Jewish Canadian history was already there an acceptable precedent had been set.

Again my apologies for the mistake with the Métis history category. And though I understand your concerns I feel that subcategories were needed in Category:Canadian First Nations, and that things are now improved. Also, while not perfect I feel that the use of the word "in" instead of "of" alongside geopolitical boundries is acceptable. Lastly, do you feel renaming is required for the "Métis ..." categories to become "Canadian Métis ..." categories? Thanks, Kurieeto 01:40, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)

John A. Macdonald[edit]

I think you've got it backwards...common usage is "John A.", and his full name goes in the first line of the article. I've moved it back. Adam Bishop 00:18, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

OK, on reflection I concur. Thanks. Fawcett5 00:30, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)
No problem...I notice you moved a whole bunch of other people to their full names too. I don't know who most of those people are so I don't know what they are usually called, but I assume some of them are better known with a middle initial as well. Adam Bishop 05:34, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Is it really still a stub? L-Bit 09:18, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

For the moment it is. It doesn't include key information such as year of founding, by whom it was founded, and what ever happened to it. Unfortunately I was not able to find that information online. There was an OLD Trains magazine that I remember had an article about it, but I don't have access to that at the moment. Fawcett5 14:23, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I think I've got it back to the way it needs to be. The redirect page history had only two entries, so a quick delete of the redirect page and then a move from the long name to the common name seems to have worked. slambo 16:03, Mar 31, 2005 (UTC)

The server cache for the edit history is taking a little longer to purge than I would like, but the content looks like it's in the right place. slambo 16:10, Mar 31, 2005 (UTC)
Sean, many thanks. Fawcett5 16:15, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)
