Object. The introduction refers to their use outside of the orchestra: "Today, they are used in many types of musical ensembles including concert, marching, and even rock bands." However, except for the early history, the body of the article is entirely devoted to an orchestral context. With respect to marching bands, needs to address how timpani fit in, since they're generally large and stationary; most marching bands use other drums instead. For that new section, though, I've got an additional factoid if you want to use it: Ringo Starr played the timpani on a Beatles record: "Every Little Thing" off of Beatles for Sale. - I've identified some journal articles dealing with the acoustics of timpani. Now I have to find a library that carries them. It's definitely a subject I think deserves some exposition.
