Alumni[edit]

I'm not sure that Heinz Winkler and now-popular rugby players should be included in the notable alumni list - these people will most likely not be remembered in more than 10 years time - and wikipedia shouldn't document the future.

It doesn't really matter to me; I don't think any University is defined / made famous by its alumni in any case. But it does provide links to some current topics — I think the links can be changed/updated in the future, when somebody else having their 15 minutes of fame appears. Dewet 11:20, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

maatjies vs tamaties[edit]

I'm more willing to believe that the term Maties come from "maatjies" and not "tamatie". http://tiscali.planet-rugby.com/COUNTRY_BY_COUNTRY/South_Africa/Country_News/story_35922.shtml --Janto

That is certainly what I remember from my time there.Babakathy 14:55, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First University to launch microsat[edit]

Surely Stellenbosch was not the first university in the world to launch a microsattelite? --Comlink

I work in the lab where it was designed. I can't find any sources about being the first university (everyone's away for holidays). I'll look into it some more. From newspaper clippings I added "SUNSAT is the first satellite designed and manufactured in Africa and was launched aboard a Delta II rocket in 1999." --Janto 13:52, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I did some Googling and it seems at least the University Of Colorado had a satellite launched in Feb 1998 which predates SUNSAT's launch. See http://lasp.colorado.edu/snoe/updates.html. I corrected the article. --Janto 14:13, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The University of Surrey in England has been building satellites since the early 1980's, with their first, UoSat-OSCAR 9 being launched in 1981. In fact Sunsat was based on a Surrey design.

Fair use rationale for Image:University of Stellenbosch crest.jpg[edit]

Image:University of Stellenbosch crest.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Wilgenhof[edit]

I merged the lead paragraph from Wilgenhof into this article, per the AfD result. If someone wants to merge more of the text, please go ahead. --B. Wolterding (talk) 14:43, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I undid the merger, as we would like for the page to function on its own since the page it merged to makes no mention of Wilgenhof.--Checker1993 (talk) 15:24, 06 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Checker1993: who is "we"? The background to my question is that shared accounts aren't allowed on the English Wikipedia. --Slashme (talk) 13:42, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Slashme: sorry, no we, I was busy with something and miss-typed. Kind regards Checker1993 (talk) 13:44, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hein Grosskopf[edit]

Some genius confused (1) Hein Grosskopf (ex MK and ANC) with (2) his father Prof HJ Grosskopf of Stellenbosch Dept of Journalism and (3) one of his uncles Heinrich and Ernst (Erni) Grosskopf, both judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of SA.

For the record, Hein was not a Matie nor a judge nor in Botswana except very briefly in transit to Zambia in his ANC days. As is clear from his TRC testimony, he is a social worker and lives in England. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ernstbg (talkcontribs) 22:41, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stellenbosch University Choir[edit]

It would be great if the people who update and maintain the University's page could also help with updating the Stellenbosch University Choir's page as well.

I've basically built that page up myself, but don't really have a clue how Wikipedia works and don't really know how their overly-complicated copyright regulations work. Every time I upload photos, they get deleted.

I think the university can afford to employ someone who is dedicated to updating relevant info on the web, including Wikipedia. That person should then also look at the choir's page.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.133.226.147 (talk) 21:46, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
