This page ought to be a more general page about the German region of Swabia (much larger than the current Bavarian district, including much of present-day Baden-Württemberg), with the Bavarian district moved to Swabia (Bavarian district) or some such... I totally agree. This page is completely misleading. When I saw the map I was totally disorientated and it took me quite a time until I realized it referred to the Swabian part of Bavaria instead of the the constituent Swabe part of Baden-Württemberg which is not only much larger, as John correctly mentions but also by far more important politically, economically and seen from an administrative point of view. Why only the eastern two-thirds of Baden-Württemberg? Maps of the medieval period that I have show at least the area from Basel to Strasburg on the right bank of the Rhine as part of Swabia, while the Imperial Circle of the early modern period certainly included all of (what was then) Baden. john k 03:48, 6 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Because nowaday swabia means that part of the former duchy of swabia which is inhabited by swabians. The other parts of the duchy (switzerland, alsace in france, vorarlberg in austria) are inhabited by other alemannics who do not speak swabian. I took out the part about Americans thinking Canadians are cheap. We make fun of them being obsessed with hockey, living in igloos, saying "eh" and so-forth. I have never once heard a fellow American call them overly frugal or cheap. But on the other hand, all Germans (even Schwabs themselves) will call Swabians cheapskates.Skeeter08865

It should be mentioned that the original Suabia (or Suebia, or Suavia) was at the territory of today's Slovakia and Moravia, from where Suebi migrates to the Swabia in 5 and 6 century. A. Surda

Bavarian Swabia[edit]

Has anybody given it some thought to rename this page Bavarian Swabia? The current title seems precise, but a little akward. Bavarian Swabia on the other hand would be a pretty literal translation of Bayerisch-Schwaben, which is what we Bayrische Schwaben commonly call it. Whats the general opinion?
