Maybe it's just me, but the line about Star Wars seems completely irrelevant and should maybe be removed. There isn't entries under Lieutenant saying it was used in Aliens or other sci-fi movies or anything like that, so why should there be under Squadron Leader? (Ben W Bell 13:30, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC))

The point of interest is that, although ranks like squadron leader and wing commander are not used in the military of the english speaking world, notablty the US, some readers may be previously familiar with the names exclusively through such fiction. It's a bit like saying Budweiser is a beer from the Czech republic, but many many be familiar with the very different domestic brand in the US. Dainamo 17:17, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)
I assume you mean they're not used in the militaries of all the countries of the English-speaking world? They do originate in the most English part of the English-speaking world! -- Necrothesp 18:12, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Average age[edit]

Anyone know where I could go about finding out the average age of a contemporary Squadron Leader? --Rebroad (talk) 00:17, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For which country? The rank is used in more than ten countries. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 00:20, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Squadron Leaders[edit]

Having checked out the ref there seems to be nothing to distinguish Sqn Ldr Thomas from any other aircrew officer. I propose to delete her name plus reference and put in the names of Sqn Ldrs who have either received Gallantry awards or have performed extraordinary achievements in the course of their duties.
