Contest archive (contest closed 19 November 2004)[edit]

How to submit[edit]

The name proposals must follow the following guidelines: Guidelines may change or be ammended without notice

  1. They must be valid, legal usernames. No profanity, please.
  2. They must not contain the word troll, or any other word or concept that may be overly inflammatory.
  3. Names should (but are not required to) maintain the "clockwork" concept (such as, "robotic", for example) while still maintaining a "charming frivolity".

Simply create a new subheading to the bottom of the page, and begin making your comments beneath it:

You may submit as many names as you can think of, without limitation. The contest ends on 19 November 2004. The most creative yet practical name (i.e., the one I like most) will get to Name the Admin Candidate!

    • Even though it's early in the process, I probably could have stood my ground an not changed my name. Although I assumed at first that they were being reactionary, they did make at least one good point: the name could make my life difficult in the long term.   • This whole thing started because people didn't like the slang meaning of "troll" to refer to someone engaging in online misconduct. I wonder if they'd have a problem with "mole" -- which can mean an enemy infiltrator sent to gain confidence and learn secrets. Maybe they'll think you work for Britannica.     • Amazing, I tried to post "MechoGnome" and ran into this edit conflict. I like the capital G better because it lends itself to "MG" as an informal nickname. I was trying to get as short as possible while still invoking your old toy.   • Quite similar to ClockworkTroll, but without any possibly perceived negative connotations. And it's also a funny twist on the Magic: The Gathering card "Clockwork Gnomes", which appeared in the Homelands expansion long ago. What do you think? Actually I'd say that on Wiki they imply very little (if any) authority as it is clearly stated that sysops have no editorial authority whatsoever.
