Terrorist Organizations[edit]

Terrorist organizations should be in their own category and not part of Irregular Military. Irregular Military should be reserved for non-standard military units fighting a conventional war as understood over the last couple of centuries and defined under the Genevar Convention. Terrorist organizations do not fall into this catagory. Further, everyone clearly understands what a terrorist organization is, as noted by the actual organization names. Thus trying to put them in some other category is doing so for someone's POV.

Militias and Irregular Military are generally recognized as being organized within the rules of a nation state. Organizations that are not affiliated with a nation state, but may be affiliated with some religion, include terrorist organizations. AlMac|(talk) 20:14, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[edit]

After I saw requests in several military article talk sections for anyone to do a better job of organizing the massive collection of articles not in any sub-category, and also a huge volume of somewhat related sub-categories, I moved some stuff to try to add a little bit more organization.

Looks to me like the content of Category:Types of forces and Category:Types of military are so similar that perhaps they should be combined into a new sub-category:Types of military forces, which might go into the Category:Military organization, which is in turn in Category Military in Category:War. • The two categories host organizations from army, navy, air, marine, SOF, etc. It would be more clear to do away with Category:Types of military and Category:Types of forces, and instead creat Category:Navy Organization , Category:Army Organization , and Category:Navy Organization. All of these belong inside Category:Military organization MCG|(talk) 27 Aug 06

Merge suggestion[edit]

Suggest merging Category:Types of military forces to Category:Military forces by type. It seems redundant & confusing to have two similiarly named cats. Also, looks like lots of overlap. FieldMarine (talk) 18:16, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I hear ya. the problem is that actually they are not overlapping. this category, Category:Types of military forces relates only to categories of entire national military forces, i.e. armies, navies, etc etc. whereas the other category, Category:Military forces by type, relates to types of units within the larger national military., we simply need to find some alternate term to use, if possible and if anyone wishes. --Sm8900 (talk) 15:16, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
