Newt Gingrich

1757 – French and Indian War: French regulars, Canadien militia and Indigenous forces ambushed Rogers' Rangers forces in the Battle on Snowshoes.
1919 – The First Dáil convened at the Mansion House in Dublin and adopted a declaration of independence calling for the establishment of the Irish Republic.
1968 – A B-52 bomber carrying four nuclear weapons crashed onto sea ice near Thule Air Base, Greenland, causing localized radioactive contamination.
1997 – The U.S. House of Representatives voted 395–28 to reprimand Newt Gingrich (pictured) for ethics violations, making him the first Speaker of the House to be so disciplined.
2011 – Demonstrations in Tirana against alleged corruption in the Albanian government led to the killings of four protesters by the Republican Guard.

Births and Deaths[edit]

In accordance with the guidelines, I've started weeding the Births and Deaths sections by removing entries for celebrities with 0-4 articles in other languages. Where possible, these have been transferred to the relevant Year in Topic articles. As well as making the lists more manageable, this will help with the globalization effort.Deb (talk) 15:18, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand what you're suggesting. But see some of the many discussions on the project talk pages, e.g. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Days of the year and Wikipedia:Days_of_the_year. Adding anything without a reference is also now outlawed. Deb (talk) 08:57, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Deb: What I am saying is that instead of removing them we can organize them (i.e. Politicians (and list all the politicians that were born on January 21 there).
