Ptlmy dynasty[edit]

Do series of numbered names of monarchs need to be included here in general? Or do we care about normal people. I'm referring specifically to the Ptolmy dynasty. --Alif 20:49, 20 Jan 2005 (UTC)

monarchs[edit]

I think it is important to include names of monarchs, regardless of the fact whther they are Ptolemies or new Turkish ones. I guess all what matters is that ruled Egypt at some point of time. I also think it's a little awkward that names such as "Ramses II", "Cleopatra" and ""Mohamed Ali Pasha are not included on the "Famous Egyptians" page. So I would like to see the section about monarchs back. User:Alef01: Great job! Keep it up! Unfortunatly I do not have an arabic keyboard and need to use a screen-keyboard to write in Arabic, so I am sorry I cannot help writing articles in the Wikipedia Arabic version. -User:afanous

  • what I meant was that maybe monarchs of any era needn't be listed here, only "normal" people. In all cases, look in the Lists Discouraged --Alif 22:47, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

The list of Monarchs was deleted, even though there was no consensus to do so. I have restored the list. Here are some of the reasons they should be included:

  1. When many people think of Egypt, they do think of the Monarchy
  2. These people are famous
  3. These people are encyclopedic - so much so that every one of them has their own article
  4. The list is not so long that a seperate article is needed

Does Abbas I under the monarchs section refer to this Abbas I of Egypt?? Jaberwocky6669 08:05, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)

Lists Discouraged[edit]

I believe lists in general are not encouraged in Wikipedia, and specially lists of non-existant articles' titles. Maybe we should move the yet-to-be-created people articles' links into the bodies of their most appropriate categories pages, until they are created, then remove the "hard-links" from the categories' pages after the articles are started and categorised properly. This however, requires that the category heirarchy be tightened. --Alif 22:47, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hi Alif, the link you posted above "Lists Discouraged" does not work, and I can't seem to find the relevant link. Can you please post the correct link? I would be inclined to include monarchs here, since this is a list of famous Egyptians, not "famous non-monarch Egyptians". Perhaps if there was some criteria for inclusion, some of the monarchs would drop off the list (although that might doom some "normal" people as well if we applied the criteria evenly). I like your idea of only listing people who have articles on Wikipedia. That would at least set an objective standard for who gets included. The other people can be moved to the talk page to see if anyone is interested in creating an article for them. Johntex 23:01, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)
You are right; the link isn't wroking. In fact I can't remember what I wanted to link to at the time I wrote this, but I remember reading something to that effect, maybe on the mailing list, by Jimbo. Sorry. However, some guidelines regarding lists are: Wikipedia:Categories,_lists,_and_series_boxes#Lists and Wikipedia:List. --Alif 23:57, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Bug: Subcategories duplicated[edit]

Guys, Someone changed the page template which resulted in duplicate sub-categories. Could you please fix that and be very careful with editing?

Cleanup[edit]

The "Thinkers, writers, and journalists" section needs some cleanup, either by removal of non-notable people or by separation of the 3 groups.

This may apply for other sections as well.

I cleaned up the article. --Meno25 06:12, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Only proper nouns are capitalized on Wikipedia. See WP:CAPS. — [zɪʔɾɪdəʰ] · 20:38, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is a not needed change. --Meno25 02:04, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
