Honestly I have never heard of him. Famous in auvergne are Vercingétorix, Pascal, Michelin, Courtin, Desaix, Domat, Bargoin, Le Coq, Michael de l'Hospital, Teilhard de Chardin, Fernand Raynaud.... user:anthere

It's not so much that Canteloube is well known, but that these songs are well known (at least in classical circles). He's one of those composers who is just known for one thing. He made recordings of Auvergnois folk songs, and then turned them into this piece, which is very widely performed. It's probably worth mentioning here. --Camembert
