POV[edit]

I'm not sure I can pinpoint how, but this article feels like it has a religious bent behind it and isn't a neutral description of the type of music. Adding POV template, please discuss. --75.55.112.14 21:02, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well the whole concept of Bhajan in anchored in religion/spirituality so of course it does... I'm removing te template for the moment, perhaps you could pinpoint where there is POV? Also please consider signing in... Sfacets 08:33, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mentioning the relaxing and refreshing properties of bhajan singing, and calling the masses ignorant in not "getting" those aspects is certainly not NPOV. Also, bhajans' mental healing properties aren't verifiable. You and I certainly may feel closer to Divinity by chanting them, but that's sadly outside the realm of an encyclopedia, as those are within the realm of subjective experience. NPOV means objectivity, even when discussing religion. It's difficult, but it's a good policy to maintain when providing information to people, which the Wikipedia after all is all about--it's education, and non-denominational at that.

I've changed the article, removed the most obvious POV bits and removed explanations of mantras and prayers and gurus (which have their own Wikipages already), as well as tried to tone down the obvious Sikh slant of the writer, since bhajans are important in Hinduism as well. I hope this article will evolve to embrace both Hindu and Sikh bhajans equally! Especially since I am not an expert in the history of bhajans and/or the notable bhajan singers and composers over the centuries.--Snowgrouse 00:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dude seriously I do not wanna hear about your religion ok? Write actual facts —Preceding unsigned comment added by CaptainDigness (talkcontribs) 15:47, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Captain - it's not possible to write properly about bhajan without writing about its religious context, a whole history of a reversion away from complicated doctrines towards music and dance as a "way to god". Let's just go across to plainchant shall we?
Plainsong (also plainchant) is a body of traditional songs used in the liturgies of the Roman Catholic Church......In the late 1980s, plainchant achieved a certain vogue as music for relaxation

There is certainly room for a more balanced and complete presentation, but the use of hymns and chants in religion and the reasons generally given for them, are part and parcel of any objective explanation. Love to see any well-referenced material that extends the range of the article.Redheylin (talk) 22:13, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unicode[edit]

I wonder if anybody could render any of the following as raster images? Many of us do not have the necessary fonts and see only squares. This is supposed to be in English - I cannot see anything wrong with a sample, but at least people ought to be able to see it... Redheylin (talk) 04:21, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
