Where did you get the "A [number] expressway" info from?

I'm in Beijing and we see none of this. All our expressways are termed "G020", "G101" and so on and so forth.

Is China finally adopting the "A" numbering system like we see in much of Europe?

We see the "A" system in Shanghai. Actually maybe we have to tell the difference between 'GUODAO' and national expressway. 'GUODAO' are marked as 'GXXX', but not all GUODAO are expressway.

Beijing-Taipei Expressway[edit]

Does anyone find this proposal worthy of attention on the article? I don't think this Xinhua article is the first mention of the idea...I could have sworn I'd seen it mentioned on Wikipedia. --Dpr 08:23, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Better pictures[edit]

Merge with National Trunk Highway System[edit]

Maps anyone?[edit]

"National Trunk Highway System" should split from this article[edit]

Just as expressways in US not equal to the interstate system, expressways in China are different with the national trunk highway system. Chinese road standards are: expressway, 1st-class road (four lane highway), and 2nd-class road (two lane highway) and so on. In the national trunk highways plan, only 70% of them are in expressway standard. Roads to remote western area such as Tibet are still in 1st- or 2nd-class road standard. Currently, upgrading these roads to expressway standard are economically unnecessary and technically difficult, though these upgrading works are planed to be accomplished in the more ambitious national expressway network plan. On the other hand, in the eastern part of China, many provincial roads are upgraded to expressway standard due to heavy traffic. That's why the mileage of national trunk highway system is much smaller than the total expressway mileage in China (35,000km vs. 53,600km). Sinolonghai (talk) 17:12, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The theoretical G99 expressway[edit]

Very interesting . . . . . . if the PRC claims Taiwan, why does it report that China has 0km of expressways on 01-01-1988 and then list the bogus G99 as currently operational on the PRC's perceived national map? Longest expressway network?[edit]

The US numbered highway system (which includes the Interstate Highway System) is 259,032 kilometers long. Instead of comparing with only the US Interstate Highway System, China's Expressway System should be compared with the US numbered highway system instead because most of that complies with the Expressway standard.
