Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Missouri Bootheel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On 1 August 2004, The Missouri Bootheel was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was KEEP the now-harmless redirect. The following proposal and its discussion are invalid here, as indicated below.

*This violates the Wikipedia naming convention (begins with the) and was a sub-stub. I redirected the page to Bootheel, a fairly comprehensive article on the Missouri Bootheel. The page was also listed on Wikipedia:Pages needing attention. Mateo SA 05:35, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)

*Keep valid redirect. RickK 05:58, Aug 1, 2004 (UTC) *Keep redirect -- Chris 73 | Talk 12:23, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC) *Keep the redirect & kill the original & let our bootheels be wandering. Geogre 14:09, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)

The nominator appropriately converted the stub into a redirect to Bootheel. Whether before or after doing that, he also decided the name was a bad title that should not appear even on a redirect. In any case, he made the redir ineffective by putting a VFD notice on it; i have removed that notice.

There could be controversy about which title is better, but that is not a VfD discussion. The nominator was clearly correct in deciding that there should be one article in place of the original two, and shows no sign of doubt about it. The only deletion-related question is whether the Missouri Bootheel should exist, and that became a Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion question when the article turned into an redirect.

I would move the nomination and debate to the proper page (altho IMO votes cast here probably would not be valid votes after that move), except that IMO anyone reading the criteria at Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion#When should we delete a redirect? would conclude the nomination should fail. I am drawing the attention of the nominator to this, and he of course can decide whether to make an RfD nomination anyway. (If so, he may want to notify those who voted here.)

This page is now preserved as an archive of the debate and, like other '/delete' pages is no longer 'live'. Subsequent comments on the issue, the deletion or on the decision-making process should be placed on the relevant 'live' pages. Please do not edit this page.
