RC[edit]

I dunno. What's RC? – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 00:20, Jan 30, 2005 (UTC)

Ah, that makes sense. I'm active at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion, and after a week, all images that have been listed and not rescued can be deleted by any admin. So I did. Don't worry - I'm not an out-of-control bot or anything. :) Best regards, – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 00:29, Jan 30, 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Georgia Guy... GG, okay? I found you on the UFO page, and gotta wondey if any intelligent life on earth really thinks there are little green men sneaking in and out among us, or just perhaps maybe some of our own species might not be up to no-good. Whaddya think? Could there really be, among the "infinite" planetary possibilities, an infinite number of planets that support life...like our own...with common history and culture...and advanced technology...(similar to our own WW2 stuff)...and even have the urge to dominate our world, or perhaps to save us from ourselves, OR do you suppose that with only a finite (ie, definite) number of planets, not really infinite at all, it is possibly MORE LIKELY that some post-WW2 group of humans actually think they can pass themselves off as a "superior race from outer space." That couldn't be plausible, could it? I mean, if it was really plausible that humans wanted to present themselves as superiors, surely we would have been told on TV... I mean, doesn't the government make sure that only the truth is told on TV? So, if it was true that UFO's were really from earth, around the time of WW2, wouldn't our government make the TV tell us so? Whaddya think, GG?

Sandbox template[edit]

What's the point of Wikipedia if it can't be just a little bit flexible?

--212.100.250.214 14:30, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I saw your note on Talk:Three halves. It hasn't closed yet simply because there are WAY more VfDs added to the queue each day than there are administrators to deal with them. Actually, it doesn't take an admin to do the redirect that the discussion calls for: you're more than welcome to be bold and do it yourself. In fact, you could close the discussion yourself, since the consensus wasn't "delete." Joyous 21:55, Mar 1, 2005 (UTC)

The full whammy set of instructions are here. The instructions you'd be most interested in are # 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. In a nutshell....Find the discussion on the WP:VFD/Old page. Edit the discussion (not the entire page.), and type at the very top (above the article title)

{{subst:vt}} RESULT. ~~~~

and at the bottom

{{subst:vb}}

I personally like to boldface the "result" but that's a style issue. Let me know if you have any other questions. We get very backlogged at the closing page, and would love your help. There are lots of article with an outcome of "redirect," or "merge," or "keep." Anyone can handle these. It seems to work best if admins do the "delete" discussions, so we can close the discussion and delete the article in one fell swoop.

Cheers! Joyous 23:35, Mar 1, 2005 (UTC)

  • Contgratulations! The VfD closure worked fine! The only thing I forgot to mention is that when an article isn't deleted, we also add a short message to its talk page that links to the VfD discussion. Since I was a doofus and forgot to tell you, I've done it myelf. You can see it here. Joyous 01:18, Mar 2, 2005 (UTC)

For future reference: Please place the notice, {{subst:vt}} result, above the section title, and don't forget to sign your name when closing the debate. You only need to sign your name for the {{subst:vt}} portion. -- AllyUnion (talk) 12:17, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Dupe Sections[edit]

I'm not sure what happened there, but I suspect it was partially due to the edit conflict between your edits and my edits and the fact that I was editing each section on that page separately. One or the other of us probably got things mixed up when the Edit Conflict warning came up. I think we have it straightened out now, at any rate. :)

Reverting vandalism[edit]

Nice job on reverting User:JesusHadBetterBeInYourHeart's vandalism. I blocked him, and it looks like you repaired his damage. Oh, and I would request that you not use the {{test4}} template if you can't be sure that the user will be blocked the next time. It makes it slightly awkward if an administrator comes along and would like to warn the user another time before he blocks him. Just a suggestion. Thanks for your vigilance, and keep up the good work! – Knowledge Seeker 01:37, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Reply about disambiguation[edit]

Well, Votes for disambiguation can be distinguished from votes for deletion by using the acronym "VfDis" instead of "VfD" however Wikipedians know the acronym "VfD" as Votes for Deletion very well. Now, since there is another VfD, I abbreviated it VfDis. --TheSamurai 17:26, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Sandbox troll[edit]

This is one of the weirdest guys I have ever seen. He has some sockpuppets on Wikipedia:

See the Sandbox history for more details

Typical features of this troll include:

  • Strange edit summaries that are quite long
  • Edits nothing but the sandbox
  • User name is strange and often very long
  • Likes to change accounts
  • Does not have a user page, thus his name is "red"
  • KEEPS REVERTING OTHER PEOPLE'S EDITS

I don't know who this guy is, but he is getting very annoying.

Reply[edit]

I have replied to you on Talk:List of radio stations in Georgia by city. Thanks, Maclyn611 14:42, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Callsigns[edit]

The second and third rules are correct as you state them. The difficulty is that far too many of the articles in Wikipedia right now are simply wrong. The FCC is the authoritative source; if people are unsure about the correct callsign (or even if they think they are absolutely sure), they should look it up in the database to be positive. When I notice them, I will fix them, at least to the extent possible for an anon. The first rule is correct except insofar as the FCC does not grant "-AM" and never has. (For Canadian stations, things are different: the suffix ["-FM" or "-TV"] is always a part of the callsign.) This is all explained in laborious detail at North American call sign. 18.26.0.18 01:09, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I don't need any explanation; I've been doing this (Web content about radio history) for more than a decade now, and I have a more than passing familiarity with 47 CFR. 18.26.0.18 01:12, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Mistaken Identity[edit]

You recently accused me of vandalizing pages on Wikipedia. While my ISP has a dynamic IP setting, I have edited some content on these pages, especially to remove vulgar or offensive content that people have decided to "add." So, I'm not sure what you're accusing me of, but I suggest in the future that you get the right person.

I notice from other posts on here that you're quick to accuse. From now on, I'll be happy to leave the jibberish that I find on here. 69.47.22.195

What's happening[edit]

Who keeps deleting the articles that I was posting in "Educational years"?

No Need[edit]

Their is no need for discusion, the article Student already covers the said sunjects, as well as the similar article allready redirect to the page. Creation of a seperate page for each level would not only be redundantm but a waste of article space. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 01:51, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Let there be one, two, many Atlantas[edit]

Hey Georgia guy,

You just reversed my article because it was allegedly "vandalism". Atlanta, aside from being the name of the famous city in Georgia, is also the name of many other people, places, and things around the world, including my dear soccer team. In the future I would suggest less accusing choice of words when performing edits.

Thank you! --Yafuetodo 7 May 2005

Vandalism Accusation[edit]

I was browsing around Wikipedia today and I noticed that you had sent me a message on April 30th, and this message accused me of vandalism. To my knowledge, I have never committed any willful acts of vandalism to this website, but I do admit that I am inexperienced and it is very possible that I accidentally vandalized a page. I created this user name to respond to your message. I would have appreciated your message a bit more if it had been less vague. As a newcomer, I had no idea what you meant by vandalism and I also had no idea how to reply to you. Perhaps in the future you could explain yourself a little more thoroughly.

I, too recently was the recepient of an unqualified, unexplained, terse accusation of 'vandalism'. Turns out my heinous crime was changing the phrase "power of two base" to read "power-of-two base" since the original was ambiguous (to me at least) on first pass. I took this very personally and then I came to Georgia Guy's user page, checked his contributions and saw that he seems to make quite a hobby of policing 'vandalism'. Don't sweat it, I sure won't any longer, now that I know what I'm dealing with. Zero sharp 08:04, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to apologise for my actions earlier involving the 'color' article. I didn't notice I had messages until about ten minutes before now, and was unable to see what I was doing was wrong at the time. The Username is an attempt to be whimsical and funny. Tis not meant to offend people or otherwise inflame tempers.

Why do you feel a move is necessary?[edit]

First, don't think I'm trying to attack you about this - but I'm wondering why you think WFMT has to be moved to WFMT (FM) - there's ONLY ONE WFMT anywhere, that's been doing business with those call letters since the 1950s. I've not seen any wikipedia guideline indicating that the frequency band (AM or FM) needs to be specified. Further, WFMT (alone) easily passes a google test, and anyone who knows the station either from Chicago, from the satellite services or from the Web will know it simply as WFMT. Yes I know you left re-directs, but I still don't see where a renaming is necessary. If there ARE supposed to be indications of frequency band in station articles, then a) are they being applied uniformly and b) where they are not present is there in fact a group attempting to set this straight? --JohnDBuell | Talk 04:23, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Reverts[edit]

Hey Gerogia guy, sorry to see you've left. Anyhow, in response to your message on my talk page, I alway revert any anon user changes to user pages that come across Recent Changes; sometimes it's the user making the changes, but other times its vandalism. Since Wikipedia custom is to not change user's pages (except for vandalism reverts, obviously) I revert the change and leave the anon a note to this effect. For the most part, if it was the user, it's because they don't realize they aren't logged in.

Hope you decide to come back to us. – Essjay · Talk 23:50, July 11, 2005 (UTC)

Requested moves[edit]

Please follow all three steps. Otherwise when the template is removed after five days there is not a full record of the requested move and if someone comes along and shortly afterwards reverts the changes made in a WP:RM request, they might be acting in good faith. As there is no other log of the changes kept, and the template is removed, it is important that the talk page contains the line of the request from the WP:RM page. Modern form of language primary focus.[edit]

I did not follow any official rule, so you can regard this as my personal opinion for the time beeing. For example, in the article about the English language, the present form of the language is the primary focus. The Greek alphabet is used today to write Greek, a language spoken by 10 million poeple, so this is its primary use. The use of the Greek alphabet in science etc. has nothing to do with the pronunciation of the letters. The prununciation of ancient Greek has been reconstructed by scholars based on indirect evidence, starting with Erasmus, and continied by W. Sidney Allen. Scholars today agree (apart from a few ideologically motivated dissidents within the Greek community) on the main lines. In my opinion, the pronunciation of Greek in the classical times is a rather specialized topic; its importance for the avarage reader regards mainly the use of Greek in English words derived from Greek. Note that the pronunciaton of ancient Greek as it is taught in today's schools (except in Greece) coincides only roughly wiith the reconstructed pronunciation of classical Greek (it does not reflect the current view in the case of diphthongs). The pronunciation of Greek at the time when the New Testament was written was nearer to today's pronunciation than to that of Plato (see: Hellenistic Greek. I noticed you've dealt with this user before and I'm looking for some help regarding his recent edits on Elitism, Populism, Liberal Elite and Luann (disambiguation). I thought it was simply a poor understanding of NPOV, but absurd edits on the Luann and Liberal Elite page, as well as justifications that range from "You know I am right." to "My edits are right and yours are wrong. Period.", have convinced me that he is a vandal. If you can help me out here, I'd greatly appreciate it.--TheGrza 03:55, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hack 'n' slash[edit]

I sympathize with your wish to reduce the size of very large articles like Swedish language (I've done some shortening myself lately), but I would appreaciate if you did it with more care. I reverted your edits to the Swedish article for a number of reasons; broken footnotes, extremely short summary, removal of very stylish maps and audiolinks, the importance of the relevant section(s) to the article and because "distribution of Swedish" really isn't the common denominator here. It's one of the few sections that hardly ever get separate articles because they're a) very easy to summarize and b) are extremely important to keep in the main article. "Dialects", "grammar", "phonology" (sounds), "history", etc. are far more logical sub-articles.

If you want to shorten articles, don't do it by simply lopping off entire sections and replacing them with one-sentence summaries stating the painfully obvious. Unless we're talking 60Kb+ affairs, there's no urgent need to move or remove anything.

{{disambig}} tag[edit]

I want to explain why I changed some of the {{LND}} tags to {{disambig}}. According to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages)#The_disambig_notice, the only tags that can be used at the bottom of disambiguation pages to render standard dab notice and add categories are {{disambig}}, {{TLAdisambig}}, and {{disambig-cleanup}}. I was unaware of this myself, until it was brought to my attention. As a result of my own confusion on this matter, page Wikipedia:List of disambiguation types was clarified to clearly explain this point.—GraemeMcRaetalk 06:33, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wynaad[edit]

I am not familiar with another use of Wynaad; I googled it after reading your message, and every one of the first 100 hits were all about Wayanad District of Kerala. Tom Radulovich 02:59, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Taking it to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion was perfectly appropriate. I specified what I think should be done, which is to use 3rd degree as a redirect to Third degree, which should be made into a disambig page. That said, I'm not particularly invested in this, and am not going to put a lot of time into arguing for it if the community wants it the other way around. Substubs and redirects[edit]

Please stop creating redirects and content less sub-stubs. The person who requested Military history of Iran is almost certainly aware that we have an article at History of Iran, and was not simply looking for a redirect to be created. Such redirects annoy readers looking for an article on the subject, and reduce the chance of an actual article being created. Similarly five word substubs are of little use, and some of those you have created are speedy deletion candidates. - SimonP 21:27, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Color lines[edit]

Hi Georgia Guy. My ambitions for the Green Line disambig page were scaled back when I kinda butted heads with a user who is more up on (and more concerned with) the Wikipedia style guide for disambig pages than I am. Still, I think the current version is better. I do plan to get to the others eventually. If you want to take them on yourself, I humbly offer the changes I made to the Green Line page as a guideline. Derivative edit[edit]

Please explain why your edit to Derivative (which I reverted) makes sense. I thought a template is a simplified version. Georgia guy 23:56, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The "alternateuses" and "otheruses" templates are horribly obnoxious because they are (as I said in the edit summary) strictly one-size-fits-all. They forbid the user to choose judiciously between capital and lower-case in the name of the disambiguation page to which they link or to rephrase in a way that best suits the subject matter. "Uses" is not a good word to use for this purpose. The context of the article--in this case, derivatives, as that term is understood in calculus--could cause a reasonable reader to think it means other uses of the thing the article is about, i.e., in this case, other uses of derivatives, rather than other senses of the same word. A template is indeed a simplified version, and simpler is better when the simpler version is equivalent to the the more complicated one, but in this case they are obviously not equivalent. And I think that's actually true of most cases, with this particular template. Michael Hardy 00:04, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Letter Number Combinations.[edit]

The existance of categories is purely for utilitarian reasons. The discussion on the letter-number combination template indicated a lack of utility for the category. Each category must stand on its own. The name of the template isn't very conducive to understanding what it is for. Also, should number letter get a different page from letter number? Hackwrench 00:29, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Two letter combinations aren't "allowed" their own template. Someone saw utility in creating the template and category, and there hasn't been sufficient utility seen in removing it.

from User talk:TenOfAllTrades... Look at this user's user talk page; namely at the section I wrote "2nd time", "3rd time", etc. for the user blanking his user talk page. Transit lines[edit]

Hi Georgia Guy-

Sorry I didn't reply to your note earlier. I do think Wikipedia's treatment of transit lines should be cleaned up, for a number of reasons:

  • The lists on the disambig pages are so long and unruly that they threaten to overwhelm non-transit uses of the terms.
  • The Wikipedia style restrictions on disambig pages, combined with the inconsistent style of naming articles, prevent us from creating a really tidy list of lines.
  • The lists as they exist commit what seems to me a grievous oversimplification: they group together lines that are actually, officially called "the Green Line" (or what have you) and lines that are only called that colloquially or are simply colored green on maps.

In some ways, it's the last bit we need to be most careful about. Wikipedia describes the world, it doesn't attempt to impose order on it. Just because we think color terms might be the best way to describe transit lines doesn't mean we should use those terms to describe transit lines that aren't called such in the real world.

So, I would suggest doing the following. On the disambig pages, rather than the entire list of transit lines, we just put a notice to the effect of "The term Green Line can refer to a service in a public transit system. For a list of such lines, see Green Line (public transit)." On the public transit page, we can have the full list, and use piped names to keep things tidy. I've set up a sample in my sandbox: User:Jfruh/Sandbox/Green_line.

As you can see on that page, I've come up with a suggested format:

  • Two different lists: one of lines that actually have the word "Green" in their official name, one of lines that are just colored green on maps.
  • Bullets within each list alphabetized by city name.
  • Each bullet has the following format: "The [name of transit line], a [transit mode – commuter rail, rapid transit, light rail, tram, bus rapid transit, bus] line [or network] in [name of city]."
  • Names of transit lines are wikilinked if possible, and piped to hide disambiguating elements from the article title.

What do you think?

IATA code links[edit]

This is already in place for the ICAO codes and the airport codes. It is an easy way to check that a redirect is in place if someone enters the code. It also serves as a warning that there are other uses if someone wants to create an article in that space as well as providing an entry in what links here to the 2LCdisambig pages. Vegaswikian 00:30, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Correct the links should not point to the dab pages. That's part of the cleanup I'm doing. It takes time to clean up every link. If I missed any, you can also correct them. Vegaswikian 00:34, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Please explain[edit]

What I meant was that the article is about the identifications of PBS that follow PBS programs, whereas the PBS Kids Sprout portion was actually about the actual logo and not the associated ident. That is, the article is about the identifications after each PBS program, while the PBS Kids Sprout bit, while part of an ident, is not the ident itself. I think that makes sense. --WCQuidditch 21:05, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I won't really have any good opportunity to do this. What I will do, however, is insert a section for such information and put {{sect-stub}} in it, so that at least something will go there at some point (I do not watch that channel). And for all this, I comment: "Live and learn". --WCQuidditch 21:12, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

_ _ Please excuse my directness in the following if you were simply careless in reading what i said.
_ _ You changed page titles. I noted that you had changed page titles, and was quite aware you had edited no pages. I said, under "LoPbN page titles", "Please put off any further such changes for now", which should have been clear to you. You responded as if i had implied something about your editing pages, which was not the case. That raises the possibility that you are intentionally pretending to misunderstand what i have said, and quibbling about what you did, in order to excuse ignoring what i've requested of you.
_ _ What you changed has been restored, and for the time being will be restored again if you repeat it. If you are persistant in repeating it, it'll be a big deal and you could end up banned from WP.
_ _ Of course, as i say, you may simply have misunderstood what i said, in which case my request to you is simply to reread and understand and do the right thing.
_ _ I would be more than glad to respond to your implicit argument that what you did was an improvement (which is a reasonable view, even tho mistaken), but first you will need to do your part to clear up whatever communication problems are involved here. In any case, don't do it again before you are in a better position to understand its implications. Thanks in anticipation.

Cut & Paste Moves[edit]

Your initiative in moving Kmetko into LoPbN's Km page is admirable, so thank you. But the first thing you should do is read Wikipedia:How to fix cut and paste moves, not so you can fix them but so you understand what they are and why not to do them. I will fix this one.

Later on, look at my contribs for the period starting with this edit, and running until i edit something that doesn't have a K in its title, to see if you're interested in understanding why Buckaroo Banzai's advice "Hey, don't pull on that, you never know what it's connected to!" could be applied here. It wouldn't necessarily be wrong for someone better informed, as you are now in a position to become, to repeat something like what you did with Km (except don't repeat the cut&paste part), if they were doing in light of realizing

  1. how much is involved in finishing the job,
  2. that there are lots of cases where it couldn't have been properly finished and would have to be completely undone instead, and
  3. (via User:JniBot/Reports/February 2006) how many of the roughly 700 LoPbN pages are too small to look like they need to exist as separate pages.

In my strong opinion, it would be vandalism, alerted as you now are, to make a similar change (c&p-wise or not) to LoPbN, without first becoming much better informed than you now are about its implications.

I'd like to emphasize that you're the victim here: there are no warnings in comments on these pages, that could have alerted you to the implications. On reflection, it's obvious to me that they aren't there bcz it doesn't happen often enuf to justify either of two burdens: the effort of placing the warnings, or the number of valuable edits that would not get done bcz someone was intimidated by the notice. You are the victim in that you get subjected to this annoying lecture, in spite of the most important fact here: you didn't do anything that any conscientious editor couldn't easily have stumbled into.

Thanks again.

Sho (letter) AfD - refs showing existence[edit]

Hi Georgia guy. Your AfD nomination for [[Sho (letter)]] asks for a reference outside of Wiki to show existence. I've added a reference to the AfD discussion and to the article's talk page. Hope this helps answer your question. —ERcheck @ 00:30, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TOC magic[edit]

For what it's worth (apropos Talk:Channel 4) you can put __TOC__ at the point where you want the TOC to appear. I don't think it's necessary in that case, though. --rbrwr± 22:05, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I used "Google™" specifically to make a point; however, I'll think about it. There were a number of redirects I had to manually fix as the move only changes the last page. In general, one needs to check "What links here" and see if there are any shortcuts, etc. Thanks for being bold – Avi 00:51, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Atlanta TV station articles[edit]

I am in the process of moving TV station articles to the proper name based off of the station's FCC call sign per the naming convention I've mentioned to you before, and I'm prepping to move 4-5 articles in the Atlanta market. Based on previous remarks you have made, I think that you might object. So rather than starting in on a revert/move war, I thought I'd put the situation up on a page and ask for input first. If you do object to the moving of TV station articles to names based on the FCC call sign alone, with no (TV), please provide your reasoning and feedback here. —A 05:46, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Googolplex is a cardinal number" means:[edit]

One is to first as googolplex is to... Georgia guy 23:51, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi: thanks for your feedback on the change I made to googolplex! I think the distinction you're making in regards to "cardinal number" is the linguistic distinction rather than the mathematical one. My bent is mathematical so I'm not used to seeing the words "cardinal" or "ordinal" to refer to magnitude vs. position. In fact I can't seem to remember ever seeing those words in that usage, though that is what the cardinal number page says. Thus I found the original formulation of the sentence to come at me a bit sideways and thought to cast it in a more mathematical light. What do you think? BTW, is this the correct place to put this comment, or should I have continued this discussion on my talk page .. or the googolplex talk page?

re: Corporal[edit]

The term corporal was invented by some guy, see his website for more information. I have not studied his system in any detail so I really wouldn't how large a corporal is. Note that the page in my my user space is a copy of the now deleted other names of large numbers. It was deleted for some very good reasons (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Other names of large numbers), namely that the names on this list are either made of by some non-notable (amateur) mathematician, or simply non-existant. For this reason I will delete this page from my user space as well. Cheers, —Ruud 18:41, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree with your statement that Total should redirect to Summation. Total S.A. is one of the major corporations in the world and can't be neglegted. Feel free to discuss with me here

AIV vs VIP[edit]

Hi Georgia guy/Archive 1. I noticed you added an entry to Vandalism in Progress. That page is only for very specific cases, as described by the page's guidelines. Your alert would be better placed on Administrator intervention against vandalism (WP:AIV), where it will usually be processed within minutes. Many alerts that are incorrectly placed on Vandalism in Progress are never dealt with, simply because they become old before an administrator gets to them. Thanks for your efforts. :) --lightdarkness (talk) 01:12, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{2CC}}[edit]

While "2CC" may be a reasonable choice, {{2LC}} was chosen during a previous TfD discussion, and discussed on several guidelines pages over a period of months. Isn't there an official process for renaming templates, rather than unilaterally? (as usual, I'll watch here for your reply.)

--William Allen Simpson 12:42, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted it renamed because 2LC is a misnomer; the characters can be letters or digits. However, what else is necessary?? Georgia guy 14:30, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As I mentioned on your corresponding Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 February 20#Category:Lists of two-letter combinations -> Category:Lists of two-character combinations, it seems overly pedantic, yet "grapheme" would be more correct. Any such change should have been discussed beforehand. Presumably we'll have the official conversation there.

Philothai's ธรรมกาย article[edit]

Just out of interest, I think it's Thai rather than Hebrew (the username Philothai is a bit of a clue). I've no idea why he's created an article in Thai on the en Wikipedia, but just for reference the procedure if you find an article that isn't in English is as follows:

  1. Tag the article with {{notenglish}}
  2. Edit today's entry on Pages needing translation into English and add a link to the article, plus any useful information you can come up with

Helpful people who speak many languages keep an eye on WP:PNT and may come up with a translation or at least enough information to say whether something's non-notable, an attack, or whatever.

If the page isn't translated within 5 days of listing, it's put up for deletion via the AfD process.

Cheers

AfD versus Prod[edit]

Regarding your question on Talk:I-95 exit list, the new method called "proposed deletion" (the {{prod}} tempalte) was created to serve as a method in between Speedy Deletion and AfD. If nobody contests the addition of the tag within 5 days then the article is deleted. This does away with the need for a seperate page with delete votes for non-controvertial deletes that do not fit a speedy deletion criterion. If the the proposed deletion is contested (by removing the tag) then the person who proposed the delete can send it to AfD. If the tag is removed from a page it should not be re-added because admins are instructed not to delete pages on which the {{prod}} tag has been removed and replaced. Hope that answers your question. Harmonic and natural scales[edit]

Hi Georgia guy,

I see you have several times changed C minor so that it has no B-flat. All the minor scale articles have a list of component notes in the first line which correspond to the harmonic minor scale. However, I think this is a little confusing and readers should be introduced to the natural minor scale first (as this would correspond to the key signature). Later in the article the harmonic minor can be described.

Does this make sense? What are your thoughts? Cheers Andeggs 08:12, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Korn move[edit]

Thanks for moving that to a nicer URL. I've written on the talk page my thoughts on moving it back to Korn, but noone has really chimed in in response (for or against) so yeah. The user who made the original move seems to have done this a few times for prominent articles, but he doesn't seem to have got the hint that consulting talk first is a good idea yet. Oh well.

The "anyone feel free to expand this" attitude would be just fine if it weren't for the deletionists. If a deletionist had seen your stub on 189 before I had, we might be having a VFD over it. I've expanded it with a couple of bits anyone could have copied over from the article on 180, so hopefully it won't be deletionist bait anymore. Anton Mravcek 19:33, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!

But the pains which he endured, Alleluia!
our salvation have procured, Alleluia!
now above the sky he's King, Alleluia!

where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!

History of the United States[edit]

I agree with the article being too long, but I prefer the history section to be re-summarized (shortened) completely, so any information that's in it now could be used as a reference guide. Deletions could potentially miss some important data that could have been included in a summary. Perhaps you can start with the summarization by deleting the sub-sections of time intervals in the History section. --Ryz05 22:31, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Statutory Instruments[edit]

Hi. I notice that you have previously voted or commented on the proposal to delete the List of Statutory Instruments of the United Kingdom, 1996 page. The debate about the delete proposal ended with no consensus. This is just to let you know that I have started a discussion on how to go forward from here. I am currently trying to define what the problems with the page are so that we can try to find a fix for them that stops short of outright deletion. If you wish to take part in the discussion, the new debate can be found here. Thank you. Road Wizard 23:39, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pools[edit]

Looking at Wikipedia:Quadrillion pool's Mfd as well as the discussion in the village pump, please make sure you know what you think about the future of Wikipedia's pools. My original wish for Wikipedia's pools should be add a new one each time one closed, but there are so many for huge numbers used only in science and astronomy now. Georgia guy 20:30, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can see the attraction of having the pools created in an orderly fashion but I honestly can't see that happening on Wikipedia. If you try to stop new ones being created you'll be fighting a losing battle. I don't think that any of the pools with high numbers actually harm the project in anyway and they just seem to be a bit of fun. RicDod 20:41, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder + Suggestion[edit]

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. This talk page is becoming very long. Please consider archiving. — Ian Manka Talk to me‼ 21:37, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
