Gay Icon Project[edit]

In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 22:13, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Dubious Citation[edit]

Darwin Porter's Hollywood's Silent Closet is the source given for relationships Shearer may have had with Mickey Rooney and James Stewart after Thalberg's death. This is not a reputable source; both of his "Hollywood Exposes" are at best fiction. If this stuff cannot be supported with other, more credible sources (such as Gavin Lambert's biography), maybe it should just be removed.

Norma Shearer at Wikimedia Commons[edit]

Is anyone else a bit disappointed with the lack of pictures on commons? Most actors as famous as her, have at least 30 pictures at commons, but she only has 13, with only 4 of the talkie era! Could someone please make a change of this?77.248.49.106 (talk) 20:22, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why nothing about Norma Shearer's hand in getting Janet Leigh her start??????? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.114.3.46 (talk) 19:50, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shearer Street in Montreal[edit]

"The name of the street where she grew up in Montreal's Point St. Charles district was renamed (Shearer Street) in her honor." I doubt this on several counts: Shearer Street is in Point St. Charles, which was a working class district, not a suburb, and certainly not likely to be where a relatively well-off family would have chosen to live; my mother was born on that street in 1921, well before Norma Shearer's fame; the Montreal official toponymy site says the street is "from the name of a lumber company on the street founded by Scotsman James Shearer" (whether Norma Shearer was related to this family I don't know). The city dates the street name back to 1881. zadcat (talk) 19:58, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish?[edit]

How so? 99.238.74.216 (talk) 20:01, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

From the article: Shearer converted to Judaism so she could marry Thalberg. Valetude (talk) 13:07, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit-warring anon IP[edit]

According to to the baptismal record cited at the Canadian Encyclopedia, Shearer's birthdate is Aug. 11. As well, this agrees with Biography.com also says Aug. 11. Despite this, an edit-warring anon IP continues to change the date without explanation and without discussion, sock-puppeting at

Lead section[edit]

I have moved User:158.51.81.23's previous query "Sexually liberated ingenue" a contradiction in terms? to this new section. Yes, it is a contradiction - see Ingénue. I am replacing 'ingénues' with 'women'.
