Hi and thanks[edit]

Thanks for getting involved in the VfD; it looks like it's not going anywhere. I've put up a list of advogatans at User:Chalst/advogato, which might be worth moving to Wikipedia:Advogato, and might be interesting for you. I though about your patent activity and involvement with proof software when arguing the case on the VfD, but didn't come up with a forceful enough sounding way of putting it. --- Charles Stewart 09:37, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Too modest Raph. Everyone at advogato who is anyone knows your interest in fonts is long standing via interviewing giants in the early field such as Knuth as well as your development and/or maintenance of ghostscript. One of these days I am going to start playing around with Chinese icons or American Space Dollars with graven images which are used for reminders or encryption keys rather than worship if the chips fall right. I am glad you found Wikipedia worthy of your time and expertise. As you may know I think we have some political structure problems which can probably be remedied locally or via the oft allegedly impending "Freepedia.org" fork. Sincerely: User:mirwin Advogato Journeyer.

Euler´s Spiral[edit]

(Not on the subject of Wikipedia. I was looking at your PhD draft and the diagram on the first page of the chapter; does it improve the visual clarity (typological beauty) if you shrink the line-width as the curve closes in on itself? (So that the apparent weight remains the same). —Sladen (talk) 13:53, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think it would. The main reason I haven't is just that I'm using raw PostScript to make most of my figures, and PostScript only has the uniform line width stroke operator. To make one with gradually varying line thickness, I'd have to compute the offset curve myself. And this is potentially relevant to the Wikipedia, because I'm more than happy for people to adapt that text to articles here. Thanks for the feedback!
