Welcome!

Hello, HowardB, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  SWAdair | Talk 06:43, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Both articles make for quite an improvement, yes! (Apologies for having created a page for you, I couldn't get to your talk page without doing that; although I should in fact have been able to, a bit puzzled about that.) Best, Bill 18:09, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Replying[edit]

Howard, I don't know what the etiquette is, and a lot of people do various things; for my part, I often reply to personal items on your user's page (although it dismembers the thread) because that automatically flags you with "You have new messages": nothing else will. When some kind of discussion looks to be general, of course, I reply on the Talk page for the particular article.

(Asfer time-consuming, Wikipedia certainly is; I went thru a couple of months of a lot of Wikipedia, but finally pulled the plug, just ambling over from time to time, because it's generally more useful to improve my own site, a large resource in its own right.)

Strikethrough[edit]

I noticed on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Paniq that you said you don't know how to do strikethrough. Its very simple, all you have to do is surround the text you want to strike through with <s> and </s>, for example:

I vote to <s>delete</s&gt keep.

produces:

I vote to delete keep.

VFD on Bakla[edit]

Hi, why did you change the timestamp on your vfd vote? [1] Mgm|(talk) 09:08, Feb 14, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Howard,

I noticed your comment at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Prataprao Gujar, and how it might be a copyvio from [2]. Watch out for mirrors when checking this kind of thing! Notice the tiny "This article uses material from Wikipedia" at the bottom.

Cheers, dbenbenn | talk 01:31, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks, David. I am learning this as I go along, and just a few days ago realised exactly what you mention. But I much appreciate your time in pointing it out. HowardB 03:31, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Image:Yang Xuefei.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Yang Xuefei.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 03:12, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sambisari[edit]

Thanks for correcting the date - I used to live about 200 metres south on the way down to sorogenen for almost a year some time back - cheers SatuSuro 07:56, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CfD nomination of Category:Italian DOC[edit]

I have nominated Category:Italian DOC (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for renaming to a different name. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at the discussion page. Thank you. Occuli (talk) 01:31, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
