No mention of 1964 tsunami[edit]

City vs community[edit]

The jet airport is not in the city, Sampson Tug & Barge is not in the city, there is ferry service directly from Port Lions to Homer, therefore not all of the shipping to the island goes through the city. Most of the community lives outside the city limits. Good demographics are available at http://www.zipskinny.com for 99615. This gives the true picture about population of the COMMUNITY and not just what is within the CITY, but this article is about the CITY. I'm one of those who lives just north of the city. This is an ongoing problem. Articles tend to be built on editors' perceptions of what the city is, which more often than not is based on a zip code coverage area than on corporate limits. The community articles on Wikipedia were for the most part mass-created by a bot, and as such were organized along city/CDP lines. Otherwise, this article would have been titled "ZIP code 99615". Kodiak is one of four major anomalies in the city/CDP dynamic in Alaska, the others being Ketchikan, Palmer and Wasilla. In these cases, there is a significant populated area directly outside city limits, yet is not included within a census-designated place. In the specific case of Kodiak, I assume we're talking about the neighborhoods east of downtown and Mill Bay Road and stretching north toward Fort Abercrombie, as well as part of the highway between town and the airport. Unless this area can be established as a separate unincorporated community or communities through reliable sources, it makes no sense to not mention them as a part of Kodiak. There are 7 communities on Kodiak, not 6[edit]

Suggestions[edit]

  • Kodiak has the only commercial rocket launch site in the US, the Kodiak Launch Complex
  • Kodiak is almost entirely green between the hydro-power and the three newly installed wind generators:
  • The link to KUBD-LP television should be deleted as the TV station does not exist. Any web search for the owners brings up very old pages with phone numbers and addresses that don't work. I installed the transmitter many years ago and it never had ANY programming, just color bars. I also removed the transmitter and antenna which was on top of the building at 1623 Mill Bay Road because they stopped paying rent. "Rusty Tusty"[edit]

Having grown up in Kodiak, I've never heard the term "Rusty Tusty". Nor have my friends or girlfriend (who were also raised in Kodiak). This may represent a small demographic.   • Alvin Amason – his years in Kodiak could stand to be better defined. The article erroneously states that he was born in Kodiak, when multiple sources state that he was actually born in McKinney, Texas.
  • Joel Bolger – was Kodiak Island Borough attorney for many years
  • Cliff Davidson – state representative
  • Peter Deveau – state representative, majority leader during the early years of the state legislature
  • Walter J. Erskine – ran a mercantile business of certain prestige out of the Baranof House for many years
  • Carolyn Floyd – the redlink means that an article is likely coming soon, as there appears to be an effort to write articles on the Alaska Women's Hall of Fame inductees. In the meantime, see that article, their website or Kodiak College.
