Latin Patriarch?[edit]

Was there ever a Latin Patriarch of Alexandria? john k 21:44, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The Coptic Catholic Patriarch of Alexandria is the regional head of the church in communion with the Church of Rome, so there would be no reason for there to be a Latin Patriarch of Alexandria.--Conwiktion 05:53, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Yes, that is true now. However, a) there was not always a Coptic Catholic Church; and b) there have in the past been Latin Patriarchs of places that also have eastern rite patriarchs. Antioch, for instance, had a Latin patriarch until 1953, and the position was only abolished in 1964. john k 06:12, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

(Presumably, these Latin patriarchs will have been titular appointments, not real ones). john k 06:13, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Not talking about this now.

Lineage?[edit]

Could we do a lineage of the Patriarchy? Complete with the splits? I am not knowledgeable enough but each of the traditions should have a list of successors. Nickjost (talk) 01:10, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect[edit]

This page should not be moved nor redirected with ample opportunity for discussion. "Patriarch" is the historic English name. There have been five or more claimants, all calling themselves "Patriarch" which is the popular title in English for all heads of Orthodox churches. Not that I want the trouble at the moment, but this page can (and should) easily be moved. See WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for details. — LlywelynII 06:41, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not following you. To what? And why? The Primary Topic is the Patriarch of Alexandria. It's named that already. Student7 (talk) 11:40, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
