Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Shivaji

Reason: Disruptive editing on the title of Shivaji, without discussing it on the talk page. Frequent edit warring and suspecting meatpuppetry. Imperial[AFCND] 10:44, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article has been under indefinite semi-protection for about five years now. It does not appear to me that going to ECP would make much of a difference as many contributors already have that user right. The only thing I could imagine doing that could force more talk page discussion would be imposing 1RR. Would you be amenable to that? (I have put a long-overdue CTOPS notice on the talk page). Daniel Case (talk) 20:33, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    AEW Dynasty

    Reason: Temporary Semi-Protection: High level of vandalism. BlueSpectre5 (talk) 02:07, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Al-Bayat (tribe)

Move protection: Page title dispute/move warring. Aintabli (talk) 15:23, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. If disruption resumes, and suitable warnings have been issued, report to WP:ANI. Ad Orientem (talk) 15:51, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Congreve rocket

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Golem08 (talk) 16:22, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    AEW Dynasty

    Reason: Only want 2 weeks of semi-protection because of vandalism. BlueSpectre5 (talk) 18:04, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Ariel Henry

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – LTA target. Panian513 18:09, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Draft:William Bishop

Reason: Create-protecting the generic form of this name in draft space is not needed, and may interfere with submission of a draft for someone other than the current subject. Multiple forms of the name are already create-protected in article space, and some in draft space also. Robert McClenon (talk) 14:09, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Any thoughts, Randykitty, as the protecting admin? – Muboshgu (talk) 15:53, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping, but, frankly, I cannot remember why I protected his. So no objection to removing the protection. --Randykitty (talk) 16:05, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Robert McClenon and Randykitty: It might have something to do with Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Armaghan Muawiyah/Archive. Last registered case was in November 2022. Favonian (talk) 16:33, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't mean to exclude you, Muboshgu! Favonian (talk) 16:34, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the sock case isn't all that dormant: Topg1985 (talk · contribs). Favonian (talk) 16:55, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed Draft:William John Titus Bishop and that just blocked account. I think this should remain salted. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:47, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Declined – Muboshgu (talk) 17:48, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Multan

Reason: The protection of article 'Multan' is no longer necessary because articles on other cities of this country (Pakistan) are not protected so whats the need to protect only one city's article ....... . Unleashed something (talk) 11:51, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected – Please use an edit request to request specific changes to be made to the protected page. The page is protected because there is a history of disruptive editing to this article. However, you can request an edit in the form of 'change X to Y' on the article talk page, Talk:Multan, which is unprotected. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 14:21, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Draft:Vaibhav Palhade

Reason: The page Draft:Vaibhav Palhade is currently protected, but the protection is no longer necessary. The page has been stable for some time and does not require the extra level of protection.Removing the protection will allow editors to freely contribute to the page and keep it up-to-date.The sources available for this person are from recognized Indian media outlets and appear to be notable.I have compared these sources with the current content on the draft page and believe it accurately reflects the available information. I kindly request that the protection on this page be removed so that the community can collaborate on improving and maintaining the content.

    Thank you for your consideration. Steelbird1967 (talk) 12:40, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – The draft is not actually protected, but it will only be moved to article space if it's approved through the articles for creation process. Favonian (talk) 14:20, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Iran

Reason: Iran's page needs multiple updates and fixings ASAP, some info are getting expired. Please decrease the protection at least for a while so I can improve the page. Farnaj57 (talk) 13:29, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Same reply as to your previous request, two days ago: the changes can only be done in response to a request at Talk:Iran. Favonian (talk) 14:16, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Vaishnavism

I would like to request that... (change spelling correction that change as in vaishnavism and delete within vaishnavism , one of the major traditions with Vaishnavism). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vinay viniyl (talkcontribs) 14:56, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done – You have made a request at Talk:Vaishnavism#Change image for Vaishnavism article., which is the correct approach. However, if you formatted it as a proper edit request, you might reach a wider group of editors. Favonian (talk) 15:11, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
